My Summary:
Choices. They have consequences. Alex made a choice in New York and the consequences are following her back to Deity Island. Those consequences may not only be for her though, but also for the ones she loves. Of course that could be the least of her worries as she approaches her eighteenth birthday. What will happen when she awakens? Can she still be Alex and the Apollyon? What about Seth? Why is he being so mysterious? And what about her feelings for Aiden? The choices and the consequences that face Alex may be more than she can handle.
My Thoughts:
5 stars - a must read
I've never had a book I felt more like giving more than 5 stars to than this book! Each book in this series has just gotten better and better. I really can't see how Jennifer can make Apollyon better but I wouldn't be surprised if she does just that.
The clues planted in the pages of Half-Blood are baring fruit in Deity. The story starts with a shock then twists and curves itself in directions I didn't see coming but has the pieces perfectly fitting together. I love how some of the characters that I barely noticed before become critical players with unexpected surprises. So much comes about in this story it will have you forgetting the time and just turning the pages. I read the majority of this book in half a day.
Half-Blood could have been considered Aiden's book and Pure could have been considered Seth's book. Now in Deity, both boys have different goals for Alex. It is that individual desire that really drives the relationships in this story. What does Aiden want for Alex? What does Seth want for Alex? When Alex finally figures that out, it makes her choice easy. The VERY best part of this book is about those relationships. I was very happy to see growth from Alex as she deals with the choices that face her and the consequences of choices she's already made. My girl, Alex just keeps getting better and better. I'm cheering for her, for sure.
The ending will absolutely shake you to your core! All I want now is to know what happens next. Is there hope? And a surprise appearance during the story has me thinking there is still hope, somehow. Since Jennifer is such a master storyteller, I have no doubt she will pull off some stunning antics in Apollyon that will bring that hope to reality.
Fabulous things you will find in Deity:
What is the chain around Aiden's neck?
Can Aiden actually play the guitar or does he just collect picks?
Does Alex still have snarky comments in the face of the worst she's seen so far?
What kind of cake is served at Alex's birthday party?
Does anyone get her a present for her birthday?
Who comes to Alex's birthday party?
Does Seth answer his phone?
Can Seth give a present like roses or puppies?
Who loves Alex, really?
Some of those answers may just surprise you. This book is a MUST read for anyone who loves YA. If you haven't started this series, then you should start because this is the best book I've read this year - maybe in quite a while.
