Armchair BEA Introductions ~ ME!

So once again, I'm home for BEA. *Pouts* BUT once again, I'm participating in Armchair BEA! YAY!

Today, I am introducing myself to all the other Armchair BEA participates.  *waves*

~~~~~~
This is me reading my favorite author!!!!
Here are the questions I was asked to answer for this:
Please tell us a little bit about yourself: Who are you? How long have you been blogging? Why did you get into blogging?
I'm the very weird math/tech teacher who runs a book blog.  Yeah, I know I'm strange.  My students will confirm. :P  I've been teaching middle school for about 8 years - all of that math.  Recently, I got my master's degree in Instructional Technology - big fancy words that mean I can teach technology classes now.  This next year, I will still have some math classes but I will also be teaching technology for the first time. YAY!
I started StuckInBooks in January of 2011.  I mostly review YA books but a few adults books make the cut as well.  I love paranormal romance the best but also read urban fantasy, dystopia, contemporary and some epic fantasy.  I stay away from mystery and horror.  Just not my thing.
I started my blog as a way to share my love of reading.  Summers are a time when I recharge and get ready for the next school year.  Reading became a big part of that a couple years back and the blog was born out of that.  Might have something to do with my love of technology too. :P
What are you currently reading, or what is your favorite book you have read so far in 2012?
Okay, favorite book I've read so far this year is the hardest question ever but I'd rather answer that one then what I'm currently reading (review book).  So really, this is only one of the best books I've read this year but that works for me.  Onyx by Jennifer L Armentrout.   She rocks my world with every book I read of her's.  I haven't read anything I haven't liked and as I always say, I'd stand in line to read anything she writes.
Tell us one non-book-related thing that everyone reading your blog may not know about you.
My favorite color is purple?!? No you probably can guess that.  Okay, hmmm....I eloped.  Yes I did.  Got on a train and went to Vegas and got married.  Just me and hubs.  May I recommend if you're gonna do that elope thing that you not take a train.  We were poor and did the best we could but it was 24 hours there and 24 hours back.
Which is your favorite post that you have written that you want everyone to read?
In general, it's my character interviews.  I love doing them and I hope peeps think their fun to read.  If I had to choose ONE of those interviews, I have to go with Seth from the Covenant series by Jennifer L Armentrout.  That boy had me blushing.  You can check it out here.
If you could eat dinner with any author or character, who would it be and why?
Oh, I'd want a group of authors AND characters - wouldn't that be fabulous!!! Let's see, I'd invite:
Alex & Aiden from the Covenant Series with the author Jennifer L. Armentrout (favs there),
Madly & Jackson from the Madly series with the author M. Leighton (Michelle is so much fun & I LOVE Jackson),
Chase & Rayna from the Protector series with the author M. R. Merrick (cause Matt is fun), and finally
 Jace & Clary from the Mortal Instruments Series with the author Cassandra Clare (just cause I love Jace
Wouldn't that be fun?!?  Might have to have a few bloggers there too.
So there ya go. Me.  Now I'm off to visit other blogs participating.  Let me know what you think of all this fun in the comments.  Thanks for visiting today.
    1. Romantic? On a train for 24 hours? Yeah well I will admit the way back was. Here's the part I didn't tell - While in Vegas, we put 5 quarters in a slot and pulled together. We won $500. So on the way back, my hubs got us a sleeper car. Yeah THAT was nice. ;)
  4. My hubs & I opted not to elope because we didn't have the money. Sounds strange, but we didn't really want a big wedding production (which is what it became since our parents were footing the bill) because we felt like a dog & pony show. In the end I think we all have some great & annoying memories of our weddings. I'm glad you joined ABEA! Tattooed Books
    1. Okay - yeah we were avoiding the dog & pony show by eloping. It was fun though.
  9. Great Q&A, Valerie! My favorite color is purple also and my husband and I didn't elope, but we went with the JP. I have just never wanted to spend that much money on a wedding, I guess. Hey, if you eat dinner with Madly, Jackson, and Michelle, invite me too, okay? ;)
  10. Thanks for stopping by.
    I love that you teach math and have a (purple) book blog. How fun!
    Have you read anything by Terri Clark? She writes fun, paranormal YA stuff. Her first novel is Sleepless and Hollyweird just came out last month.
    By the end of our wedding, I was wishing we had eloped! Planning a wedding to be in one state while living in another was hugely stressful. I don't know how I would have done it without my mom.
  11. Thanks for your comment on my blog. I love how despite the 48-hour round trip on the train, you and hubs were determined to get married. That's romantic.
    Enjoy the rest of the week!
  12. I've always thought I'd like to elope, if I were getting married (just not elope to Vegas, lol). I don't think I'd be able to organize and go through a big wedding party.
    I keep reading good things about Onyx - I might have to try it.
  13. LOL Val, known you for so long and now I know you're a bad girl at heart. I guess it's why JLA is your fav huh? ;) I didn't elope but I didn't tell my parents and I got married in my backyard with a bunch of friends. It was fun. I'm going to read the character interview you did with Seth, I love these too :)
  15. I've never been good at math but I have been a teacher. And man alive - I admire you for sticking with it. I didn't last long. And I have friends who teach high school. Between the job security and the kids who don't want to be there - what you do is incredible. I have so much respect for teachers!
    I also love that you eloped =) Sometimes I really think that's the way to go. So great to know more about you! I've been a follower for awhile.
  16. I wonder if the characters would feel odd sitting there with their creators. It would be great though. I will have to check out the character interviews as soon as I read the books.
    Hope to see you around at Armchair BEA.
    Answer: TOO freaking much dude!!!!
    Okay... So I've decided that since we gravitate toward the same books and generally really like the same books, that I simply MUST take Obsidian off the shelf IMMEDIATELY and begin reading it!
  21. I adore math. It was my favorite subject in school until I got to calculus. But, I think that's because of the teacher I had. I want to give it another go someday. My favorite is algebra! Love matrices, FOILing and factoring. I also love geometry and trig. I'm getting all misty eyed just thinking about math, lol.
    1. Oh, you might appreciate this. My husband and I got a picture of our car when its mileage hit Pi. We had it out to nine digits. Loved it!
    2. LMAO! Really? That rocks!
      I love math too as you might expect. Calculus can be a nightmare if not taught right. I hit that wall in college with Abstract Algebra - no it is NOT real algebra which I love. It was fields, groups and rings - and I'm like WHAT????? My BA is in math so I took a lot of math classes after calculus.
      Thanks for stopping by.
  22. Thanks bunches for stopping by my post, Valerie! That's totally cool that you eloped. I think if I were ever to get married, I'd either do that or have some really small ceremony!
    ReplyDelete
  23. HA! I think about eloping all the time, besides the fact I don't have a boyfriend, because it's more of a "me" type of thing! I hate attention and guh, throwing a WEDDING? no thank you. I'd rather go to Vegas. ;D
    nice to meet you, Valerie!
  24. I have so much respect for teachers! I homeschool my 2 kids. My son is going into 9th grade and I have to admit that I often turn to youtube to remind me how to do the math that I will teach him the next day! It is tough for me!
    I really like Jennifer Armentrout too! I have not read Obsidian yet though, I need to get my hands on it soon!
  25. So many books I have not read. I am also "stuck" in YA books. 99% of what I read is YA now. IO have a middle schooler who I have to keep up with and she reads about 1 books a day.
    Thank for stopping by my blog.
  30. I don't think that's strange at all! I wish more people loved both math and reading! I remember one of my secondary edu classes where we had to incorporate a book into the curriculum and the math major didn't want to. I found a few books that could work and she was really surprised! Jennifer Armentrout...LOVE!! My favorite color is purple, too, yay us! I want to come and eat with you, haha!
