Cursed by Jennifer L Armentrout ~ early review

Source:  Received ARC from the author in exchange for a fair and hones review.

My Summary:

Death was the last thing Ember thought she'd have to deal with in high school - at least not her own.  But there was a car accident 2 years ago that killed her father and ....her.  Brought back by her gifted younger sister, Em now has a killer touch.  To complicate things her mother has checked out on the responsibility thing, leaving her to take care of her 5 year old sister.  Everyone at school thinks she's a freak what with her long sleeves and gloves but how can she admit that her touch kills.  Then she sees the hottie, Hayden, and thing will ever be the same again.  Can there possible be other gifted people like her sister?  Can they possible be willing to have a freak like her around too?  As the truth trickles out, Ember's world is rocked all over again.  Who can she trust?

My Thoughts:

5 stars - Mystery woven between paranormal and love - this book will rock your world!

One of the things that I love about JLA's writing are her incredible heroines.  Each is different but all are strong and Ember is no different.  Dealing with more than any teenager should ever have to face, Ember pulls deep from her character to do the right thing.  Unable to manage but unwilling to give up, I just loved her.  Having learned to consider herself bad because of her gift she thought of as a curse, Ember still proves that she is a good person with her actions.

Hayden is drawn to her from the beginning but Em needs to sort through things, figure it out.  The chemistry is strong despite the inability to touch each other.  I respected that Ember needed to let the relationship develop.  Frankly, that was a pleasant change from some books.  I loved that he is so transparent in his feeling and everyone sees it but Em.  But Hayden isn't an open book about his past and he holds a lot close to the vest.

Hayden's part of the mystery that is this book and I will admit that at times I was really puzzled by him.  So many little clues and hints left among the lines of the pages as I read.  What was up with his dad?  What about the twins?  Really, what is Phoebe's problem?  What's up with school - I mean someone's there is off.   Who's out for Ember and who can she trust?  She's not sure and neither was I.  I will admit to knowing who the bad person was before it was revealed but not understanding the motives until the end.  I loved that I really had no idea where this story was going and I enjoyed the ride as the pages flew by.

If you follow my blog, you know that JLA is my favorite.  This book is a classic example of why.  Yes the killer touch has been done in other books, BUT not like this.  Her characters are so strong and real to me that I can't help but roll through the same emotions that they do.  Her stories are unpredictable and impossible to put down.  What's even better, is she just keeps putting out more books that I love.  I could take her books with me to that deserted isle and be perfectly happy as long as I got every new one she ever writes.

DO NOT MISS THIS ONE!  It's available September 18, 2012.
