Never date your best friend
Always be original
Sometimes rules are meant to be broken
Best friends Dave and Julia were determined to never be cliché high school kids—the ones who sit at the same lunch table every day, dissecting the drama from homeroom and plotting their campaigns for prom king and queen. They even wrote their own Never List of everything they vowed they'd never, ever do in high school.
Some of the rules have been easy to follow, like #5, never die your hair a color of the rainbow, or #7, never hook up with a teacher. But Dave has a secret: he's broken rule #8, never pine silently after someone for the entirety of high school. It's either that or break rule #10, never date your best friend. Dave has loved Julia for as long as he can remember.
Julia is beautiful, wild and impetuous. So when she suggests they do every Never on the list, Dave is happy to play along. He even dyes his hair an unfortunate shade of green. It starts as a joke, but then a funny thing happens: Dave and Julia discover that by skipping the clichés, they've actually been missing out on high school. And maybe even on love.

I read YA books because I feel I can relate to the characters the books more than to characters in their 30s/40s worrying about marriage and/or kids and/or a dead husband and so on...Plus, I love YA literature because it makes you dream, it makes you feel like you have your whole life ahead of you and it's more original than adult literature!

Reading YA takes you away for a little while from the stresses of our daily lives.
ReplyDeleteI read YA books because I can connect with the characters even though they're generally seven years older than me at times. I like being able to relate to their problems they have and when I see that, it makes me feel better. I love being able to just become part of their world when I'm reading.

I read YA because it's awesome.
ReplyDeleteI read YA because it's full of new life and adventure and young people experiencing real things. We need YA because it sets the bar for the current generation, the next, and the next. <3 Excellent giveaway - I'd never heard of this book before but now I HAVE to read it!

There's something about YA books that perfectly captures the feeling of being at the brink of adulthood, when you still have your whole life ahead of you, full of possibilities and wonder. YA heroines are idealistic and can be naive and sensitive which is all part of there charm <3
ReplyDeleteI read YA, and just books in general, to escape the stresses of my everyday life and follow someone else's journey for a while. Books are especially great if you don't have a ton of friends.

ReplyDeleteI like YA because it's a different kind of escape, a new exploration of life. :)
ReplyDeleteI read YA for many reasons:
ReplyDelete1. the nostalgia of high school and first love
2. the stories are often more "deep" and meaningful than more mature reads
3. I love romance, and I don't mind sex in a book, but sometimes it's too gross/detailed/kinky/etc for my taste, and YA doesn't typically use that angle
4. like any book, it's an escape!
Thanks for the chance!
I read YA because they remind me of a simpler teenage life and also because they're often better than adult ones plotwise:)
ReplyDeleteBecause I miss my teenage days!
ReplyDeleteI'm a teenager so I find I can really connect witht he characters
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like an interesting read, I actually haven't heard of it before.

Because it always, always resonates with me. Hahaha... I guess I never really grew up :P
ReplyDeleteI read any book I'm interested in, regardless if it's classified as MG, YA or adult. I love a good story and don't want to be restrained by age categories!
ReplyDeleteYA books give me a different kind of read.
ReplyDeleteBecause they are clean and they feature stories that most of us have been through or know someone else who has and we can connect with the story. Thank you for the giveaway :)
ReplyDeleteOH my this one seems like a great read!
ReplyDeleteYA books symbolize hope and the fact that there are always stories, every story matters and that every one of them deserves to be told and read. I read YA, because I love it. I love it because, it's a part of me, of who I am.
ReplyDeletenice books, will be stuck in these books ;)
ReplyDeleteSometimes I want to read a book that is not New-adult. Just a clean read.
ReplyDeletebecause ya books have intriguing , diverse plots and I like them more than adult books
ReplyDeleteI like them because they are usually a quick, entertaining read.
ReplyDeleteThey have proved to have just as riveting plots and characters as adult books.
ReplyDeleteEscape. I find YA books have great characters, faster paced plots, and great humor and friendships. Plus everytime a read a YA book it reminds me of the time my love of reading was first cultivated.
ReplyDeletethe few I read are for a change of pace and to share with my daughter who reads a TON of them!
ReplyDeletebecause i love to read^^ simple as that
ReplyDeletethanks!!
I love YA books just because I love that fresh love. And I love to read all romances actually.
ReplyDeleteThough I could go on about the virtues of reading YA, I prefer a question poised right back at you...why not? ^-^
ReplyDeleteI read YA books to then share with my twin teen daughters. It keeps me in touch with what they are reading and gives us much to chat about.
