The Marriage Contract by Katee Robert ~ Review

Source:  Received an eBook copy in exchange for a fair and honest review.

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Katee Robert begins a smoking hot new series about the O'Malley family-wealthy, powerful, dangerous and seething with scandal.

Teague O'Malley hates pretty much everything associated with his family's name. And when his father orders him to marry Callista Sheridan to create a "business" alliance, Teague's ready to tell his dad exactly where he can stuff his millions. But then Teague actually meets his new fiancée, sees the bruises on her neck and the fight still left in her big blue eyes, and vows he will do everything in his power to protect her.

Everyone knows the O'Malleys have a dangerous reputation. But Callie wasn't aware just what that meant until she saw Teague, the embodiment of lethal grace and coiled power. His slightest touch sizzles through her. But the closer they get, the more trouble they're in. Because Callie's keeping a dark secret-and what Teague doesn't know could get him killed.

Review...

See that guy on the cover?  That is so Teague.  And I love Teague.  As part of a mafia family, he's the best kind of guy.  He hates his fathers ways and he wants nothing more than to protect those he loves.  He doesn't want to be part of the marriage contract between his family and another leading family until he meets Callie and feels the need to protect her too.  But Callie holds him at bay and keeps her secrets.  And what a mess these two end up in.  The hope of anything working out gets more and more dim as the body count increases and war between the families seems inevitable.

Lots of hot romance between these two makes this one a yummy read.  When they're alone, they can't keep their hands off each other.  And they find some interesting places to be alone.  I loved how Teague treated Callie.  Him calling her Angel just did it for me.  He falls for her fast and strong.  I guess some may think it's too fast but I was good with it.  She falls for Teague as she discovers what kind of man he really is.  He's not what she expected and he takes care of her in the bedroom very well.  Her heart becoming involved was just going to happen.

This one is written is third person and I always struggle with that.  It's the one type of third person that I like more than the rest but I still have a harder time connecting with characters in this style.  That's just a personal issue of mine.

There were lots of secondary characters all set up and ready to move to center screen.  I'm most interested in James and Carrigan's story.  Those two should be fun together.  Both are strong characters and Carrigan is going to fight it every inch of the way.  Should be entertaining.

The story being set around mafia families made for a different twist.  It wasn't quite what I was expecting.  It's a little long for my taste but I did enjoy it.

If you like it hot and hopeless, then this is the book for you.

  3. I loved Teague and he did a great job of taking care of his "Angel." I struggle with person, and connect so much better with first person narratives. I'm looking forward to James and Corrigan's story two. These two were very dynamic characters!!! Excellent Review Val :)
