Review...
Here's the thing - women are not perfect. Even at the best moment of our lives we are not perfect. And while I love reading about perfect bodies coming together, it's fiction. That's why this book is such a breath of fresh air.
Abby Erickson is not model material and she knows it. She beats herself up about it. And the douche date she has that tells her if she'd lose some weight she'd be hot is a jerk I'd like to backhand. Because that attitude is what has women always worried about how their behind looks in these stupid jeans. I LOVED that Abby walked out of that date. And thus sets the stage for a second chance of sorts.
Despite having had a boyfriend, that she later married, Abby noticed the hottie Colton in high school. Who wouldn't? Of course, even if she didn't have a boyfriend, she didn't feel like she had a chance with that boy. Thing is he noticed her too. Now, with Abby widowed and Colton very available, they meet under less than great circumstances. But Colton believes in second chances and he's on it.
I love this guy. Colton likes what he sees and hates that Abby doesn't see herself the way he does. He's on a mission to help her get it. And he's determined to protect her.
Yep, someone's wants her out of the way. She saw something they didn't want her to and that's not a good thing. So there's a suspense element to this story and I loved that. It drove this story from their meeting to helping them see things how they are between them. Really added a little something to this novella.
Of course it's a JLA book so it's hot and sexy. Colton plays the gentleman only so long before he shows his skills. And talk about skills, yeah the guy has them.
And because it's a JLA book, it's well written with great characters. Of course, some of our favorite characters from the other books in this series make a brief appearance. I was very happy to meet Jillian and I'm thinking she may show up again in Brock's book (Fire In You). I loved her bookish ways and her shy self.

I read it in an afternoon and really enjoyed it. It was great to see a heroine that wasn't perfect, that doubted herself and yet figured out how to accept herself. Very nice.
This novella stand alone, so if you need an afternoon quickie, than this is a great one. It's also a must for those who have read the series. You'll love it.

About DREAM OF YOU:
Abby Erickson isn't looking for a one-night stand, a relationship, or anything that involves any one-on-one time, but when she witnesses a shocking crime, she's thrust into the hands of the sexiest man she's ever seen - Colton Anders. His job is to protect her, but with every look, every touch, and every simmering kiss, she's in danger of not only losing her life but her heart also.
Excerpt...
Colton leaned toward me with his gaze locked onto mine. “I
didn’t know you in high school, but I knew of you.”
“You did? I can’t imagine it was anything interesting. I was
boring as—”
“I never got the impression you were boring,” he
interrupted, and goodness, I could fall into those eyes and never come back
out. So cheesy sounding, and if I saw it in one of my author’s books, I’d
redline the hell out of that, but now I got it. It was possible. “I just
thought you were this pretty girl who sat two seats behind me in history class
and was shy.”
Several things occurred to me at once. He remembered that we
shared history class together? Holy crap on a cracker. And he thought I’d been
pretty? I was sure I probably weighed twenty pounds more back then and I wore
these godawful glasses that were so trendy nowadays.
Colton was a flirt.
“Looking back, I wish I had the balls to talk to you then.”
He returned his attention to his crepe while my jaw hit the table. “But you
were with Kevin and…yeah, that’s not my style, you know?” He glanced in my
direction. “You’re going to eat the crepes, right?”
“Yeah,” I murmured, cutting into one side. I forced myself
to eat a bite, and it was like heaven just orgasmed in my mouth. Wow. That was
inappropriate. I resisted a giggle. “What about you? You’ve been a cop this
whole time?”
“Yep. It’s what I always wanted to do. Started off as a
deputy, then became a detective for the county before transferring to the city.
I love working as a detective, but with my hours all over the place, Reece, my
brother, has pretty much straight up adopted my dog. She doesn’t even stay at
my house anymore.” He finished off the second crepe with an impressive
quickness and then settled back against the chair, stretching out his long
legs. “Almost got married.”
Thank God I had just swallowed a piece of crepe because
there was a good chance I would’ve choked. “Almost?”
“Was engaged.” He grinned, and I felt my tummy dip in
response. “Nicole and I were together for…hell.” He glanced up at the ceiling,
pursing his lips. “For about six years.”
Holy crap, six years? That was a long time. I wondered if
she was the woman I’d seen him with at the movies that one time, but that was
like, maybe a year ago.
“Got all the way down to planning the wedding date when we
came to the realization that we wanted different things in life.”

Love this review! This book was so good and I loved Abby and Colton!
ReplyDeleteThis book is SO going on my TBR! I can't wait to dig in. :) I loved the excerpt and am already swooning hard on Colton. ♡♡
ReplyDeleteI loved this story as well Val. I agree with you. As woman, we beat ourselves up all the time over our appearance, and I love that JLA gave us a real woman with real insecurities. I agree that the suspense added to the plot and it was very well-written always brings us the good stuff! Wonderful Review :)
