Visions of Heart (Psy-Changeling, #2) by Nalini Singh ~ Review

Source:  I purchased the audio book.

Hailed as a major new talent in paranormal romance, Nalini Singh takes us deeper into the world of the Psy and the changelings in her latest extraordinary novel, where a gifted woman sees passion in her future - a passion that is absolutely forbidden by her kind...

Used to cold silence, Faith NightStar is suddenly being tormented by dark visions of blood and murder. A bad sign for anyone, but worse for Faith, an F-Psy with the highly sought after ability to predict the future. Then the visions show her something even more dangerous - aching need...exquisite pleasure. But so powerful is her sight, so fragile the state of her mind, that the very emotions she yearns to embrace could be the end of her.

Changeling Vaughn D'Angelo can take the form of either man or jaguar, but it is his animal side that is overwhelmingly drawn to Faith. The jaguar's instinct is to claim this woman it finds so utterly fascinating and the man has no argument. But while Vaughn craves sensation and hungers to pleasure Faith in every way, desire is a danger that could snap the last threads of her sanity. And there are Psy who need Faith's sight for their own purposes. They must keep her silenced - and keep her from Vaughn.

Review...

I tore through the first book in this series but I savored this one a bit more.  Listening to the audio as I did other work, I tried to force myself to take it slower but it was hard.

The narrator in this on adds to the story.  Her voice feels like it's a part of it all.  For me, a narrator can make or break a story.  This one made it better.

Faith draws the changeling jaguar Vaughn even before she meets him.  The cat's not sure why he's so interested in the secluded and heavily guarded compound but he watches and when a beautiful redhead psy sneaks out he pounces.

These two are almost complete opposites.  Vaughn feels deeply and is driven by instinct and a powerful body.  Faith is a rare and valuable F-Psy who relies on her mind but can't handle the sensation of touch.  As Vaughn follows his instincts and Faith puzzles things out with her mind, these two grow close.

And the sexy?  Yeah, there's a lot of that.  Vaughn is driven by touch.  He teaches Faith about it slowly and it ruptures into some pretty hot moments between these two.

I love this world.  So much depth.  The mix of humans, changelings and psy make the dynamics complex and dynamic.  The two extremes of instinct driven and unfeeling with the human in the middle sets up lots of parallel situation to today's world.  I enjoy that.

I love all the characters.  It was great seeing Sascha and Lucas, who were the focus of book one, again.  There are so many great secondary characters that will step up to have their own story.  The author gives us bits and pieces that get me excited to read them.  I look forward to Hawke, the leader of the wolves.  Dorian's story is going to be great too.  This was the first time I noticed Judd much and I'm a bit nervous but intrigued to read his story.

Took long enough to find this series but I'm onboard and excited to plow through so many books that I'm sure I will love.  The hunger for good paranormal is strong and this is one satisfying series.

If you haven't started this series and you love paranormal with a heavy side of romance, then this series is the one for you.

  1. If you loved aith and Vaughn then you will become obsessed with Hawke and another one Psy who will be revealed much later. His story literally shakes the planet! I hope to see your reviews on "Guild Hunter" too!
