A Beautiful Distraction by Kelsie Leverich

Source:  Received paperback from the publisher in exchange for a fair and honest review.

A brand new novel in the New York Times bestselling Hard Feelings series—where nothing’s more dangerous than a bad boy with a broken heart…

First Sergeant Rafe Murano did everything to the extreme. He trained harder, he fought harder, and, unfortunately, he loved harder. And falling for the wrong woman nearly destroyed him.

Home from a deployment, and without his missions to consume him, Murano is ravaged by memories of his heartbreak. So he drinks until he’s numb and drowns himself in meaningless one-night stands. But they only take the edge off…

Until he meets Fallon.

Haunted by her past, Fallon Kelly knows all too well about the desperate desire for an escape. So when she sees the tatted-up bad boy who’s one punch away from a ride in the back of a squad car, she offers a distraction—one that quickly becomes an addiction.

Little does she know, this bad boy can love so hard, it can break her…

My Thoughts:

4 stars - Rafe had me wanting to sooth his broken heart!

First Impression...

I loved the first one in this series and I actually read book two and this one at the same time, switching back and forth.  I was very excited to continue this series.

The Characters...

Rafe.  His heart is broken.  He's feeling guilty and less of the man that he thought he was.  The women that did this to him is still haunting him.  He tries to forget with whiskey and a different women every night.  No seconds.  Then he see Fallon on the stage and he's distracted for the first time from the pain.  That distraction explodes into attraction and lust.  And when this man falls, he falls so hard.  He can love like no other.  He defends.  He protects.  And not just because he's a tatted soldier.  No one better cross those he cares about or even a women saying no.  He's an incredible man who's made some mistakes - mistakes that have ripped him apart.  It seems that only Fallon can fix those rips.

Fallon.  She's what Rafe needs.  For that I like her.  It took me a long time because she has a wall around her heart.  Her sucky parents and ex need to have the world told of what their mistakes are - they are so terrible.  My mama bear heart just couldn't deal with them.  And because of this past, Fallen is closed and standoffish.  But Rafe makes her feel safe, more importantly he makes her feel.  It's a bit much for her after not feeling for so long.  By the end I'm happy with her.

The Story...

I enjoyed Rafe and Fallon's story.  I love the stories where two broken people fit so well that they heal each other.  That's how this one worked.  Fallon just fit in Rafe's arms.

The heat in this one is scorching.  These two can't keep their hands off each other and the need for each other isn't determined by their location - car, kitchen, wherever.

I did have one little problem.  A lot of the story takes place in Denver, my home town.  Rafe is a smoker and he's frequently lighting up.  The problem is that smoking is prohibited in all restaurants and bars but he's doing it throughout the book.  It's a little thing but it bugged me.

Could I Put It Down...

I was up way too late on a school night for this one.  Of course I couldn't put it down.

In The End...

If you've started this series, then you must read on.  If you haven't started this series and you love your sexy romance heavy on hot side with a side of protective tatted soldier then pick this one up.

  5. The majority of the books I've read I've liked both the male and female equally. It's rare for me to end up liking only one of them, but it has happened before. Thank you for the review. I loved the previous books and would love to get my hands on this new one.
