Unlovable by Sherry Gammon & GIVEAWAY

Source:  Received eBook from the author in exchange for a fair and honest review.

My Summary:

Maggie may look like a heroin chic but that's far from the whole story.  She's trying to survive her senior year of high school with her alcoholic mother and brutal ex-boyfriend.  She has no one and it's better that way.  Everyone she's every trusted has let her down.  It's better to just not let anyone in.  That gets harder and harder to do when Seth, the gorgeous and rich boy every girl wants, starts talking to her.  He can't possible be interested in her.  Besides, Hillary has her  sites on Seth and they fit together so much better.  Both good lucking and popular.  Maggie is just trailer trash as Hillary points out all the time and unlovable as her mother always reminds her.  But when a girl is killed at the park near her home and the drug situation is escalating, Maggie needs to trust someone.  Can Seth convince her it should be him? And what about the secret he's not allowed to share with her - how's that gonna work out?

My Thoughts:

4 stars - Heart wrenching story dripping in romance

This is a very complex contemporary that had me in tears. The plot wraps around Maggie's horrible home life dealing with her verbally abusive alcoholic mother, the drug investigations at Maggie's high school with the undercover Seth, and the developing feelings between Maggie and Seth.  Told from alternating Maggie/Seth/Bad guys POV, the story moves along quickly and had me trying very hard to resist looking at the ending because I needed it to be alright.  I didn't look though and finished the book staying up till 2AM to get my answers.  I did figure out most of the twists but the ride was still worth the trip.

I loved Maggie.  She is so far from unlovable as the sun is from the moon but her mother (using that term VERY loosely here) tells her she is on a regular basis.  It hurt my heart and truly I hated her mother.  Even when her story was out, I just couldn't forgive her for what she'd done.  Despite her mother, Maggie works hard to try to be a good girl.  Her efforts are so successful and I loved her, admired her and was so proud of her.  Think my mother bear claws came out quite a bit.  Then there was Seth.  Undercover and totally in love with Maggie, he tries so hard to get her to trust him.  He's patient and protective.  I couldn't get enough of him. There was more Maggie POV than Seth but I was so excited every time I turned the page to a new chapter it said Seth.  Love that boy.  I will say I didn't like the chapter from Bill and Alan's POV.  They were the bad guys and while the other chapters were written in first person, theirs were written in third person.  It was a uncomfortable change for me.

If you like the YA contemporary scene, then this one is a great choice.  I really enjoyed it.
