Fall With Me by Jennifer L Armentrout ~ Review

Source: My wonderful co-blogger Jess got the physical ARC for me at ATF.  Then she mailed it to me.  It's signed too! EEP.

Eleven months ago, bartender and weird-shirt-wearing extraordinaire Roxy and Officer Reece Anders had a one night stand. Well, kind of. She’s been in love with him since she was fifteen, and he wishes that night they shared never happened. She’s sworn him off forever, but the past and future collide, forcing her to rely on the one man who broke her heart not once, but twice.

Her best friend since birth has been in a long-term care facility since he became a victim of a hate crime years ago, and the person who put him in there is out of prison and wanting to make amends with him and Roxy. She’s not sure she has room for forgiveness in her and when she begins to receive frightening messages and is on the receiving end of escalating violence, she thinks she knows who is to blame. The man who already destroyed one life already.

But Reece isn’t convinced. The threats are too personal, and even if Roxy doesn’t believe him, he’s not willing to let anyone hurt her. Including himself. He’s already messed up more than once when it comes to Roxy and he’s not going to let history repeat itself.

Review...

Jen always gives you more in a story.  It's a romance but she mixes in some suspense, some serious character growth, or some hard issues.  Or all of that.  It's what makes her a master story teller.  It's never just one thing.  She blends her amazing characters, stories that feel so real with these little extras and I've never been disappointed.  If anything, her books, her stories, her characters just keep getting better and better. Can you give more than 5 stars?  I might need to create a new scale...a JLA scale.

Roxy and Reece's story is about two people who have loved each other for years but life has gotten in the way of them getting together.  When Reece decides it's time, he doesn't let Roxy push him away.  And if that was where this story started and ended, it would be like the rest of the New Adult stories that are common place now.  But it's only the beginning.  Add a hate crime, a stalker, lots of guilt and even more and you have a story that feels real.  Because life isn't straight forward and easy.  Life is a puzzle that we add pieces to each day waiting to see what we make of it in the end.  Lots of pieces to this one.  And they fit together seamlessly, creating a beautiful picture in the end.  It's not a perfect picture.  It has its bruises and mars but it's real.  It's edgy.  It's captivating.  It's easy to get lost in. It's JLA.

The mystery of the stalker was interesting to me.   Having read Don't Look Back, I know how JLA can make me suspicious of everyone.   I did decide on the stalker well before it was revealed and I was right.  But the stalker was so well played for this story that I wasn't unhappy that I figured it out.  No, I was just cheering on Roxy and Reece as they worked through every issues that got thrown in their path.  I wanted their HEA so bad.

I loved seeing all the characters from previous books.  They're there and we get caught up on their lives.  We see sneaks of what may come for Nick.  (I so love him, btw).  I loved seeing Cam and him calling Avery shortcake.  I loved seeing Jace and his protective ways.  I loved the cray cray that is Katie.

Speaking of cray cray...there is just that edge that is a JLA book.  The phrases, the descriptions, the emotions that are so much her personality leaking into her books and I love it.  If you've had the pleasure of meeting her or listening to her on social media, you know what I mean.  She really does put herself into these books.  LLAMAS are in this book.  Seriously, they are.  Only JLA could find a way to accomplish that.

I was all smiles at the end and I can't wait for book 5.  This whole series has been so great.  It's New Adult at it's best.

This book can be read as a stand alone.  It may be my favorite of this series.  Every time she adds one to this series, I feel the same.  How does she get better every time?  I have no idea but it's true.

When you want a sexy New Adult book that's more than the sum of it's pieces, then this one is the one you want.
