From New York Times bestselling author Katy Regnery comes a dark and twisted retelling of the beloved fairytale, Cinderella!
My name is Ashley Ellis…
I was thirteen years old when my mother – retired supermodel, Tig – married Mosier Răumann, who was twice her age and the head of the Răumann crime family.
When I turned eighteen, my mother mysteriously died. Only then did I discover the dark plans my stepfather had in store for me all along; the debauched “work” he expected me to do.
With the help of my godfather, Gus, I have escaped from Mosier’s clutches, but his twin sons and henchmen have been tasked with hunting me down. And they will stop at nothing to return my virgin body to their father
…dead or alive.
** Contemporary Romance. Due to profanity and very strong sexual content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18.**

Author Interview

  • There have been so many wonderful Cinderella inspired stories.  Yours seems a bit different.  How did you come up with the idea?  Stepfather?

To be really honest, Cinderella isn’t one of my favorite fairytales, but over the years I noted that my fans always suggested it. Please do Cinderella! When are you going to do Cinderella? If I had to choose one fairytale for you to re-write, it would be Cinderella! So my challenge was to find a way to make the story palatable to me as a writer. And sometimes, I find that turning the fairytale on its head is the best way to make that happen.

Instead of an evil stepmother, how about an evil stepfather? Oooo! And she’s a young girl so he can really frighten her and threaten herl! Yes! And, hmm…how about a fairy godfather, instead of a fairy godmother? And while we’re at it, let’s make him this amazing, charismatic gay man! YES! Perfect! And Prince Charming…hmm. What if he’s fallen from grace before the story even begins? Neither charming, nor a prince, on the outside, maybe his valor is waiting to be proven? YES YES YES! And suddenly….I had a story. 😉

  • Shoe.  Every Cinderella story has a shoe and they're on your beautiful cover.  Anything you can safely tell us about the shoe?

On my cover, it’s more about the glass than the shoe. Julian is a glass-blower, and when we first meet him, he’s trying to perfect his skill at miniatures. But he becomes—um, er—distracted by Ashley’s arrival, and ends up ruining the figurine.

Because my fairytale retellings are “inspired by” fairytales, not exact re-writes, there will be parts of the fairytale I use, and others that I don’t. I think that’s what makes them so much fun!

  • I love stories that have more than romance.  It seems like this has a lot more.  Does the mix include suspense?

SO MUCH SUSPENSE! In this version of Cinderella, Ashley’s mother dies, leaving her with her evil stepfather and two evil stepbrothers (remember Anastasia and Druzilla from the Disney version? Meet Anders and Damon in mine!) Once she figures out the “work” her organized crime boss stepfather has in store for her, she literally goes on the run. (I mean, this is a man who sells women as sex slaves and trades automatic weapons on the dark web!) She’s being hunted for the majority of the novel, and I think it’s a nail-biter!

  • The title intrigues me.  How did you decide on it?

Thank you so much for asking this question!! If you look in the dictionary under CINDERS, the definition is “fragments of ash,” and since this is a CINDERELLA story, and the heroine’s name is Ashley, I felt it was fitting.
