She found herself staring at his mouth as he spoke. He had

He stepped back and sat in the club chair facing her. “So,
what’s your story, Liddy? Do you have a boyfriend waiting for you back in San

She turned to look at the fire. “My friends say I’m
clingy, and I chase them away.” Liddy instantly bit her tongue, stunned that
she would admit that out loud. To him, of all people. This had to be the
pain killers talking.
“Do you think you’re clingy?” he asked.
“No, but does any woman think that?” His
lips pulled to the side as if considering her statement.
“Let’s see. Do you call them more than once a day?”
She sighed. “Well, yes.”
“Do you text him an unnecessarily large amount of times?”
“What’s unnecessarily large?”
“That’s a yes.” He crossed his arms. “Do you overanalyze
what he posts on social media?”
She glanced off to the side, thinking about the last time
she’d done that. Perhaps overanalyzed wasn’t the right description, but she
definitely stewed over possible meanings, yeah.
“I could go on, but it definitely looks like you’re in the
clinger zone.”
Her chin lifted. “I think you’re really over-simplifying
it. And this isn’t all my fault.”
He leaned forward resting his elbows on his legs. “Those
guys got it wrong.”
She blinked. He’s going to take my side?
“They don’t know how to handle that kind of attention. If
you were mine, I’d leave you each morning telling you exactly what I’d do to
you when I get home. You would be so wet and wanting, you wouldn’t have time to
guess if you were on my mind all day or not. Thinking about you or someone else.
You would always know where you stood with me.”
