It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover ~ Review & Giveaway

IT ENDS WITH US
BY COLLEEN HOOVER

"Colleen Hoover reminds readers that love is a fragile thing, built from courage, hope, and tears. Every person with a heartbeat should read this book."

– Kami Garcia, #1 New York Times bestselling author

ABOUT IT ENDS WITH US:

Lily hasn’t always had it easy, but that’s never stopped her from working hard for the life she wants. She’s come a long way from the small town in Maine where she grew up—she graduated from college, moved to Boston, and started her own business. So when she feels a spark with a gorgeous neurosurgeon named Ryle Kincaid, everything in Lily’s life suddenly seems almost too good to be true.

Ryle is assertive, stubborn, maybe even a little arrogant. He’s also sensitive, brilliant, and has a total soft spot for Lily. And the way he looks in scrubs certainly doesn’t hurt. Lily can’t get him out of her head. But Ryle’s complete aversion to relationships is disturbing. Even as Lily finds herself becoming the exception to his “no dating” rule, she can’t help but wonder what made him that way in the first place.

As questions about her new relationship overwhelm her, so do thoughts of Atlas Corrigan—her first love and a link to the past she left behind. He was her kindred spirit, her protector. When Atlas suddenly reappears, everything Lily has built with Ryle is threatened.

With this bold and deeply personal novel, Colleen Hoover delivers a heart-wrenching story that breaks exciting new ground for her as a writer. Combining a captivating romance with a cast of all-too-human characters, It Ends With Us is an unforgettable tale of love that comes at the ultimate price.

REVIEW....

Source:  Received an ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Once you've experienced a Colleen Hoover book, you know better than to start it late in the evening.  I should know better, right?  Yeah, I started it late and before I knew it, I was a 1/3 of the way through it.  The next 2/3 went super fast too.  Why?  Because this story grips you and holds you to the point that you MUST KNOW what's going to happen.

The characters are real.  I fell for all of them quickly.  I adored Ryle and he broke my heart.  I still love him.  My heart hurts for him.  When I discovered his past, I cried.  And though he breaks my heart, I still love him.  I'm not sure how that happened.  I can't explain anymore but he's this strong neurosurgeon who is driven to succeed.  Relationships and commitment are not in his plan but Lily gets under his skin and he can't make it stop.  Twenty-nine doors or 29 texts, he wants it to stop.

Lily grew up with an abusive father.  The book starts with his funeral.  I hate her father with every ounce of my being.  We learn the details of her past through journal entries.  We learn about the homeless boy, Atlas, that way too.  And I do love Atlas.  I'm so glad that Lily was kind to him.  She took risks to help him and she stood up to others for him.  I loved her for it.

Atlas.  Oh, Atlas.  I am not a love triangle kind of person and this isn't one.  Not really.  But there are three, though they don't really overlap much.  Atlas experienced something that no teenager should ever have to go through, in my opinion.  And he came out stronger.  And I love him.

It rarely happens that I love all the main characters to this extent.  I usually like one better or dislike one a lot.  The only reason this could possibly happen is because all three of them are real, so very real.  Only a brilliant author can create such characters.

The writing is outstanding, painting pictures that hold me in the pages of this book.  I just couldn't raise my head from the book, I needed to keep reading.  I needed to understand.  I needed to know.  And that's because this story is so compelling.  People judge.  They look at others and make decisions for them and think, "I'd never...".  Yeah, you might.  If you walked in their shoes, if you understood their pain.

And yes, this is emotional.  My heart hurt.  I cried.  But I just couldn't stop reading it.

Any book this author writes is an automatic buy for me.  I adore her style and storytelling.

This book combines real and relevant characters with a poignant and consuming story to create a perfect reading experience.
