Heart of Obsidian (Psy-Changeling, #1) by Nalini Singh ~ Review

Source: Purchased the audiobook.

Step into New York Times bestseller Nalini Singh’s explosive and shockingly passionate Psy-Changeling world…
A dangerous, volatile rebel, hands stained bloodred.
A woman whose very existence has been erased.
A love story so dark, it may shatter the world itself.
A deadly price that must be paid.
The day of reckoning is here.

From “the alpha author of paranormal romance” (Booklist) comes the most highly anticipated novel of her career—one that blurs the line between madness and genius, between subjugation and liberation, between the living and the dead.

Review...

Prior to reading this book, my favorite of the series was book 3, Caressed by Ice.  The reason I love Caressed by Ice so much is it's hero, Judd Lauren.  He's a Telekinesis (TK) psy who's heart is ice.  I so enjoyed watching his ice melt.  Enter Kaleb Krycheck, powerful psy TK with lots of secrets and questionable motives but with a clear weakness for Sahara Kyriakus.

And now I can't decide which book is my favorite of the series.

The last few books in the series were focused on the Snow Dancer pack so the switch to Krycheck's world had me unsure.  I honestly wasn't sure what to think of Kaleb's  shorts scenes throughout the series.  He's scary and dangerous for sure.  But a love interest?  That surprised me.

Yeah, I should learn that this author is a master at the sexy alpha male heroes.

I continue to adore the characters in this series.  Seeing old friends from previous stories show up in the current read is so fun.  I've learned to love the psy and the humans as much as I love shifters.  All the characters are just so real and they have my heart.

The writing is excellent.  I'm just not a third person writing kinda girl, but this author has changed that.  I enjoy her sensual style.

This story was complex and had me grabbling to figure out what was going on.  Could Kaleb be trusted?  Was he as scary as I thought?  What had he done in the past?  What would he do now?  I so enjoyed the journey of figuring it all out so much that as soon as I was done listening to this one, I started it again.  It's complex enough to pick up more the second time through.

This is book 12.  I started this series in July of this year.  Two more books and I'll be waiting for the next one with everyone else.  And while I really hate waiting, the simple solution will be to read this author's other popular serious.  If you love paranormal romance and haven't started one from this author, you really need to fix that.

This book, this series is some of the best of the best when it comes to PR.
