Title: Fair Game
Series Name: The Rules Series
Author Name: Monica Murphy
Genre: NA Contemporary Romance
Now she supposedly belongs to the ultra rich, extremely gorgeous Shep Prescott. He could have anything he wants yet he seems to be in hot pursuit of her. No matter how rude, how snarky, how impossible she acts, it doesn't stop him. More like her horrible behavior seems to make him want her more.
When she finds herself starting to fall for him, Jade's confused. There's more to Shep than the carefree rich charmer he portrays. No way could he want a serious relationship with her...or could he?
Monica's Favorite Quotes
from Fair Game
Is it wrong that most of my
favorite quotes from FAIR GAME revolve around Shep? Well, we’re supposed to
fall in love with the hero, right? And thankfully, I tend to fall in love with
the heroes I create, though some I fall for harder than others. Shep? I fell
for him extra hard. Despite his arrogance, the way he viewed women and relationships,
I just knew he was going to be a goner once he met Jade. And I was right.
So here are a few of my
favorite quotes from FAIR GAME (first in my new NA series THE RULES). Hopefully
reading these quotes will tempt you into reading the entire book…
Favorite quote #1:
“You’ll
do all those girlfriend things girls do. Hang out with me. Wash my clothes.
Feed me. Rub my back. Go out to dinner with me. Watch TV together.”
“Wash
your clothes? Feed you? You make me sound like a maid.”
Shep doesn’t have a clue when
it comes to having a girlfriend. He’s a one and done type guy. That’s his rule.
So when he proposes that Jade be a sort of girlfriend for him, he doesn’t do it
in the best way. Wash his clothes? Feed him. He sounds like a child—and he
seriously makes me laugh.
Favorite
quote #2 (I need to lead up to this one):
“Despite
how much you hate me, I keep thinking about you.” He hands over the box and I
take it from him with numb fingers. “A lot.”
“Like
how you want to murder me with your bare hands?” I twist the box within my
grip, mangling it further. I owe him a new one. Good thing I overcharged.
“I’d
rather do something a lot more fun to you with my bare hands,” he whispers, his
mouth curving into the slightest smile.
That last quote right there, I
love. I swear as I write, I don’t even know where I come up with this stuff.
The characters are talking to me like they’re real people! Yes, I’m completely
bonkers.

Quote #3:
Jade’s thoughts upon seeing
him…
Freaking
Shep. Shirtless Shep. Running like a madman out on the field while chasing a
little black and white ball Shep.
She’s not feeling too great
when she spots him but everything perks right up when she knows he’s nearby.
And he’s shirtless. Which leads to another favorite quote…

Quote #4:
…wow,
he smells good. I can actually see sweat glisten on his belly and oh my God, I
think my ovaries just exploded.
Or
that could be cramps.
I
can’t really tell.
Sweat glistening on Shep’s flat
stomach would probably make every woman’s ovaries explode. Because trust me,
he’s one sexy beast.

Quote #5:
“What
do you want?” she asks snidely.
“You,”
I tell her like an idiot. I swallow hard, ignoring the buzzing sound swarming
in my head that’s most likely vodka-induced. “I want you, Jade.”
Aww, this quote above came to
me as I was writing a difficult scene between them. I remember thinking, how
could he answer her question? What is the one thing he could say to her that
would make her melt? Because she needs to melt. He’d done something sort of bad
prior to this moment and she is so angry with him (and she should be). So I
figured the best thing he could say to Jade is that he wanted…her.
Favorite
Quote #6:
“Why
did you think I’d tell you no?”
“Because
you love to tell me no, Jade. I think that’s one of the things I like best
about you.”
And this exchange above best
describes the relationship between Jade and Shep. She’s not afraid to tell him
no. She has no qualms in letting him know how she really feels. And he’s never
encountered a woman like that, ever. They all bow down to him and do what he
wants, always agreeing with what he says. He hates it. But Jade’s not like
that. She’s a challenge. And most men? They love a challenge! At least in
romance land they do. I wanted to give Shep a strong partner, not a wuss. I
think Jade is his perfect match. J
