Marlee Harper is the perfect girlfriend. She's definitely had enough practice by dating her NFL-star boyfriend for the last ten years. But when she discovers he has been tackling other women on the sly, she vows to never date an athlete again. There's just one problem: Gavin Pope, the new hotshot quarterback and a fling from the past, has Marlee in his sights.
Gavin fights to show Marlee he's nothing like her ex. Unfortunately, not everyone is ready to let her escape her past. The team's wives, who never led the welcome wagon, are not happy with Marlee's return. They have only one thing on their minds: taking her down. But when the gossip makes Marlee public enemy number one, she worries about more than just her reputation.
Between their own fumbles and the wicked wives, it will take a Hail Mary for Marlee and Gavin's relationship to survive the season.
To say I loved this book is just not strong enough! #LaughSmirkSmileLove
This story is so fun to read. It's packed with witty banter that had me so amused and seriously stuck in it's pages! I adored Marlee! There is just no other character I've ever read that's quite like her. She's strong but she's also a mess. Picking herself up after a really hard ending to a long relationship has her reeling. And the girl has it bad for carbs and wine! Gotta love her.
As for the character I hate most, that would be Chris. Talk about a number one jerk! Yeah, he figures things out in the end but I don't even feel sorry for the boy. He got what he deserved. Karma is a ...well you know what it is.
As for Gavin. I so love him. He makes mistakes but he's a good guy. He's patient and definitely real. AND the boy can fill out a pair a jean...or football pant...or well nothing at all. Just dreamy. I was impressed with him, though. Things aren't all rosy all the time but there is a fair amount of quality couple time. That's something that not all books have and I so appreciate it when it happens. There needs to be couple time. And romance. This guy has that down for sure. Can you say mile high club??? Sexy beast he is.
I can't remember the last contemporary that captivated me as much as this one did. I kept thinking I knew what was up but nope I didn't. At the end I was wanted to sit and cry with them. There is this crying scene so legit, I wanted to join in. But the ending was perfection. I'm impressed with the author and will definitely pick up the next book.
Good stuff. #DontMissThisOne #ForReals
I love this new trend towards drawn covers and this sounds like such a good contemp romance. Great review!
