So my book boyfriend for the week?

Jason Brody!

Life loves a good curveball…

Seventeen-year-old Annie Lucas's life is completely upended the moment her dad returns to the major leagues as the new pitching coach for the Kansas City Royals. Now she's living in Missouri (too cold), attending an all-girls school (no boys), and navigating the strange world of professional sports. But Annie has dreams of her own—most of which involve placing first at every track meet…and one starring the Royals' super-hot rookie pitcher.

But nineteen-year-old Jason Brody is completely, utterly, and totally off-limits. Besides, her dad would kill them both several times over. Not to mention Brody has something of a past, and his fan club is filled with C-cupped models, not smart-mouthed high school “brats” who can run the pants off every player on the team. Annie has enough on her plate without taking their friendship to the next level. The last thing she should be doing is falling in love.

But baseball isn't just a game. It's life. And sometimes, it can break your heart…

Jason Brody. Oh goodness. What can I say about this magnificent hunk of book boy? He's a super attractive, nice baseball player. Pitcher, to be exact. And he's such a good guy. Like, I cannot even tell you. There is so much swirling around in my mind right now about this book boyfriend that I love--seriously one of my favorites this year, along with this whole BOOK--but I don't want to tell you. Honestly, I just want to shove this book into your hands so you can READ this beautiful book and fall for my boy Brody yourself.

But I'm going to tell you a little bit more so that I can throw out some examples, because QUOTES!

Like when he distracted Annie from a freak out...

He laughs softly and moves his hand lower, rubbing circles between my shoulder blades. He continues speaking into my ear, low and sexy, and it's such a turn-on, I close my eyes and get lost in it.

And then there are these moments that set my heart all aflutter...

He holds me tightly in place and leans in closer. "Just so you know, if I had the crisis you're having today, you're the first person I'd want to see. You're the only person I'd want to talk to."
Our eyes meet and my heart beats like a wild animal licked in a tiny cage. My lips part, but no words fall out. Brody's fingers move through my hair and my skin heats up, my thoughts jumbling and losing their grasp in reality.
"I'm sorry for not doing this sooner, and I'm sorry for doing it all," he says.
My eyes widen as he closes the gap between us, his lips hovering a millimeter from mine. His bare chest presses against me, and I feel the thud, thud, thud of his heart when his mouth touches mine.

And these cute little things that make me happy...

He leans in to kiss me, but I put up a hand to stop him. "I just ate pizza." That doesn't deter him at all. He grips the back of my neck and gently brings our lips together before pulling away and going back to his slice of pizza.

And sweetness like this...

"Tell me something."
I tangle my fingers in his hair, and rest my mouth on the top of his head. "Tell you what?"
He kisses allthe way up to my collarbone, pulling me lower until our foreheads meet. "Something you've never told anyone."
"Why?" I kiss his lips, lingering there and forgetting every bit of drama my day held.
"It makes me sure that you and I are real." There's a trace of doubt in his voice, vulnerability that I've never heard before. And I remind myself that he doesn't have anyone. Just an empty apartment and the memory of his mom kicking him out years ago. "I like keeping your secrets."

There are SO MANY more Brody moments and quotes I wish I could pull for you guys, but I'm getting closer and closer to sharing my favorite part (which is also one of my favorite book moments this year, and of all time), which is something you should experience in context to get the full effect of the sweet feels. Ahhhh, I love this book. I love Jason Brody. SO MUCH LOVE.

  1. Ooo he sounds delicious.
I suppose my book boyfriend (of the week) would be Florentino Ariza from Gabriel Garcia Marquez's Love in the Time of Cholera.
He never gives up on the woman he loves.
Wouldn't everybody want a love that could last eternity.

  2. Jason sounds like an awesome guy. Great pic for a book boyfriend.
