Shadow Reaper by Christine Feehan ~ Review

#1 New York Times bestselling author Christine Feehan continues her sexy new series, as the Ferraros—a Chicago crime family—use their power as shadow riders to protect their empire and the ones they love…

Billionaire playboy Ricco Ferraro knows no other life. Being a shadow rider is in his blood - but so is a haunting desperation stemming from the secrets of his dark past. His recklessness puts not only his life at risk, but also the future of his entire family. To save them all, he must find a woman who can meet his every desire with a heat all her own...

Just when Ricco has given up hope, he meets her - a mysterious woman whose shadow connects with his. She's someone looking for a safe haven from the danger that has stalked her over the last several months. In Ricco's embrace, she finds one. But the darkness in which they so often find sanctuary can also consume them...

I was nervous reading this book.  I knew Ricco had a secret.  I knew it would be bad and I wasn't sure how I would feel about it.  But I should always trust this author to always have the dark and sensual alpha males down perfectly.

Ricco Ferraro is a shadow rider.  He protects and he brings justice.  During his training, he traveled to Japan to learn.  The experience left him changed.  His rope art helped him maintain his sanity.  But when his race cars slams into the wall, even his family questions if he is alright.

I loved Ricco in the first book.  I love the whole family.  They are strong and protective.  I love how they take care of each other and the neighborhood.  Ricco has always stood out.  He holds himself apart, to a higher standard then everyone else.  He doesn't believe there is a women for him.  He's played the part of the playboy too well.  And I think there's a part of him that doesn't believe he deserves happiness after what's happened in the past.  But Ricco is too hard on himself.  He blames the child he was for not stopping what a man may not have been able to prevent.  And what he does save is precious...as he will learn.

This story is more sensual then the first book.  I've never been a fan of ropes but I found that this one was beautiful in the portrayal of Shibari.  I will say that this book has the hottest sex scenes I've ever read.

I loved how the story wove together to create a masterpiece of design and effect.  I figured out the bad guy ahead of it being revealed but I loved how truly intricate the story was.  It felt full circle.  The past invading the present creating the very healing with it's pain.  Truly brilliant.

Of course I'm reading the next story.  And then I'll be waiting, hoping for more.  There are more brothers and I Emma as well.  I need them all!
