Moonlight Seduction (de Vincent #2) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

The de Vincent brothers are back—and so is the intrigue that surrounds them—in New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout’s sizzling new novel...

Nicolette Bresson never thought she’d return to the de Vincents’ bayou compound. It’s where her parents work, where Nikki grew up... and where she got her heart broken by Gabriel de Vincent himself. Yet here she is, filling in for her sick mother. Avoiding Gabe should be easy, especially when so much of Nikki’s time is spent trying not to be stabbed in the back by the malicious hangers-on who frequent the mansion. But escaping memories of Gabe, much less his smoking-hot presence, is harder than expected—especially since he seems determined to be in Nikki’s space as much as possible.

Gabriel spent years beating himself up over his last encounter with Nikki. He’d wanted her then, but for reasons that were bad for both of them. Things have now changed. Gabe sees more than a girl he’s known forever; he sees a smart, talented, and heartbreakingly beautiful woman... one who’s being stalked from the shadows. Now, Gabe will do anything to keep Nikki safe—and to stop the de Vincent curse from striking again.

While I adore JLA and her books, I was nervous to pick this one up. Mostly I was worried I wouldn't like it as much as I wanted to. With Gabe's past, and what went on with Nikki and Gabe years before...it set up a romance I wasn't sure would go the distance for me. Luckily I ended up really enjoying it!

First and foremost I adored the characters. Nikki was awesome. Her sass was perfect. And Rosie! Such a cool, fun friend--whom I believe is the love interest for Devlin? I am BEYOND excited to see that. Speaking of those de Vincent brothers, they're always compelling to read about. They're all so complex, and Gabe was no different...but more on him in a minute.

With book 1 in this series, Moonlight Sins, I was more into the romance than the plot. This installment was the complete opposite; I was so into the storyline. So much so that I literally could not put the book down and read the entire thing in basically one sitting. There were no parts that particularly dragged for me or made me want to do anything but continue reading. It was a great reading experience.

The romance, however, has me on the fence. As I said at the beginning of this review, Gabe's past, along with the past tied with Nikki, was kind of tough for me to get over. It's a delicate balance. I very much appreciated Gabe's emotional progression throughout the novel. I will also point out that there were many swoons to be had--of both the sweet and sexy variety. Gabe and Nikki have amazing chemistry. I think my only issue is that they took so long to become solidly TOGETHER, and then by the time they were the book was over. So basically I wasn't as in love with the romance as I wanted to be--and Gabe's behavior made it take much longer than expected (practically forever...it was near the end of the novel) to win me over.

Overall, Gabe & Nikki's story was passionate, enthralling, and I really liked it! If you're looking for a romance with some off the charts chemistry, I'd say to make sure you get your hands on this baby.

4 stars - A passionate and enthralling romance!
