Book Description:
Anna Whitt, the daughter of a guardian angel and a demon, promised herself she’d never do the work of her father—polluting souls. She’d been naive to make such a vow. She’d been naive about a lot of things.
Haunted by demon whisperers, Anna does whatever she can to survive, even if it means embracing her dark side and earning an unwanted reputation as her school’s party girl. Her life has never looked more bleak. And all the while there’s Kaidan Rowe, son of the Duke of Lust, plaguing her heart and mind.
When an unexpected lost message from the angels surfaces, Anna finds herself traveling the globe with Kopano, son of Wrath, in an attempt to gain support of fellow Nephilim and give them hope for the first time. It soon becomes clear that whatever freedoms Anna and the rest of the Neph are hoping to win will not be gained without a fight. Until then, Anna and Kaidan must put aside the issues between them, overcome the steamiest of temptations yet, and face the ultimate question: is loving someone worth risking their life?
My Thoughts:
5 stars - Totally fell for Kaidan all over again!
I may have struggled a little bit with the beginning of this book. Um...well! Kaidan wasn't around as much at the beginning and you all know how I feel about the guys!. Kopano just didn't do it for me. So, while I loved the story and what was up, I really devoured this book once Kaidan was around. EEP!
I loved Sweet Evil. This story is unique and daring. I love the spin on old lore about Gods and Nephilim. That whole world has always interested me. I tend to pick up those books a lot. Some of my most favorite are in this category. This series is different with the Dukes. Their children are forced to "work" in their sin. The feeling of being slaves to their sin and their father really causes this one to have a different feel. The idea that the Nephilim can't really have relationships with each other also gives the idea of forbidden relationships a whole new meaning.
The story is from Anna's POV and while I love her, my heart belongs to Kai. Okay, I'll talk about Anna first. In book one, she wasn't "working" but she's been forced to. She tries to avoid it as much as possible but the whispers won't leave her alone. Her sin is addiction. It's interesting to see how she deals with trying to do what has to be without letting it change who she is. I like her determination to get through. Even before any hope exists, she seems to have some. I liked that.
Can I talk about Kai yet??? Yes, I can. The yummy son of the Duke of Lust is a drummer. Did I mention how much I love drummers?
Drummers are so yummy. Have you ever noticed their arms? *Sigh* Okay, yes I dated drummers in high school and I married a dirt biker (same effect).
What I really LOVE about Kaidan in this book is something he does. I can't really tell you because you need to read it yourself BUT he puts himself at risk to be good enough for Anna. I loved that. He may have pushed her away but he is always doing that to protect her. I just love that about him. He's willing to hurt to protect her. It's also why I wanted to kick his butt!
As I said before, the second half was my favorite - more Kaidan but really the whole thing read quickly. I actually listened to the audiobook. I think if I had been reading it, I would have got through it much faster. I was listening to it as I traveled back and forth to a conference for a week. Stuck in traffic with Kaidan - yes I was.
I so NEED book 3! Can it come out today so I can read it? It's definitely on my WOW list.
Since I did listen to the audio, I should say that I enjoyed the narrator. I liked her British accent for Kai. Oh yes, that made the book so much better - listening to him with an accent. *Sigh*
If you read Sweet Evil, then this one is a must. If you haven't read this series and you enjoy some Greek God lore with some very forbidden romance, then this one is a great one to choose.
Oh and you so should support Kaidan in the YA Crush Tourney TODAY.
I love Kai, but I had to vote for Tristan!!!
