Wolf Storm by Dee Garretson and GIVEAWAY

Source:   ARC from Harper Collins Publishing (I accepted this book in exchange for a fair and honest review)

My Summary:

Stefan went with a friend to an audition for a movie and landed a leading role in a blockbuster sci-fi film. Joined by a famous stuck-up co-star, he struggles to get through the first day. Everything he does is wrong. When the production day finally ends, most everyone leaves for town. The three child actors and one adult actor are left in an old ski lodge as a huge winter storm hits the mountain. When the power goes out, they build a fire and try to enjoy the adventure. But then there are wolves howling inside and out of the lodge. And the morning brings quite a few dangerous surprises. Hurt, cold and hungry, will anyone even know they need help? Worse still, even if someone knows to come help them, can they get through the snow?

My thoughts:

4 stars- a great read

Wolf Storm is a great middle grade story about how three young actors work together to help an aging man survive a series of disasters on sci-fi movie set high in the mountains. The world is modern and contemporary. The addition of trained wolves for the movie and wild wolves adds some depth to the dangers the children face. The plot is action packed but believable. I enjoyed how the relationship between Stefan and his co-star Raine developed over the course of the story. Raine was a stereotypical spoiled child actress demanding and pampered as the book begins. As the problems mount, Raine is enjoying herself for the first time in her life. It’s different to actually do instead of pretend. It’s interesting how she bonds with Stefan, who has common sense without the actor persona. They became friends, which I really enjoyed watching.

This is a quick read. I read it in a few hours. Wolf Storm is a great middle reader story with themes that include survival and nature. It’s not a YA book but still a good story.

  4. I read very little middle grade books, but since I read Harry Potter when my son was in grade school, I will not longer not be adventurous - sometimes there are true gems :) thank you for sharing about what sounds like a very interesting read and for the lovely giveaway opportunity.
