Walk the Edge by Katie McGarry ~ Tour Stop & Giveaway

Coming March 29th

ABOUT WALK THE EDGE:

One moment of recklessness will change their worlds.

Smart. Responsible. That's seventeen-year-old Breanna's role in her large family, and heaven forbid she put a toe out of line. Until one night of shockingly un-Breanna-like behavior puts her into a vicious cyber-bully's line of fire—and brings fellow senior Thomas "Razor" Turner into her life.

Razor lives for the Reign of Terror motorcycle club, and good girls like Breanna just don't belong. But when he learns she's being blackmailed over a compromising picture of the two of them—a picture that turns one unexpected and beautiful moment into ugliness—he knows it's time to step outside the rules.

And so they make a pact: he'll help her track down her blackmailer, and in return she'll help him seek answers to the mystery that's haunted him—one that not even his club brothers have been willing to discuss. But the more time they spend together, the more their feelings grow. And suddenly they're both walking the edge of discovering who they really are, what they want, and where they're going from here.

Review...

Reviewers note: I had an opportunity to discuss this book with the author before I read it. I'm a teacher and she realized I would be very interested in this one. I teach technology classes and one of the most important units we do is the internet safety unit. Cyberbullying and it's consequences along with what's safe to share online are two topics covered. Unfortunately, I'm able to pull articles from current events to add to the unit. It's so sad what happens to kids when things are posted online without thought. So when this author gave me some insight as to what this one was about, I was excited to read it. What a masterful job of portraying such an important concern for teens today.

Masterfully written, this complex and beautiful story had me reading straight through to the end. I adore this authors books and was excited to read this one. Her books are always real, cutting and insightful. This one was no exception and may well be my favorite of hers.

I knew Razor from book one of this series, Nowhere But Here, but I didn't know him at all. He doesn't say a lot and he's fighting inner demons that could break him apart and away from the only world he has ever known. But the core of Razor is that of a protector. Even when others make assumptions about him that are far from true, he won't leave others in harms way. Though if you cross those he's a mind to protect, you best be running. When Razor decides Breanna should be protected, he takes it very seriously and sissy football players should be warned.

Breanna is the smart girl. The one that people laugh at because they are embarrassed that they aren't that smart. So she bound herself in a box and hides who she really is to prevent the unwanted attention. But she craves to be who she is openly. It's a common problem for teens, though for a variety of reason. I'm always amazed how this author genuinely gets teens. The authentic voice is never clearer than with Breanna. I love her immediately. She hides who she is and is the caregiver at home to four younger siblings. Not fitting in with the four older siblings, she stands alone. I saw way to much of myself in her. Not the genius but the desire to be accepted for her less than perfect self. I believe it is a common desire and will bond most readers to Breanna.

Brought to life from page one, this story captivated me. I knew the Reign of Terror from Oz's story and it was nice seeing some of the characters I already knew. But I just kept turning the pages because I wanted to know what would happen for Breanna and Razor. And it wasn't an easy journey. Surprises and skillful twists had me unsure of what would happen next. Even a ghost from the past had me wondering what was going on. I love it when I just can't see how things could work out and yet the author expertly weaves the frayed pieces back together with complete perfection.

Needless to say, I will be reading the next one in this series and anything this author writes. She's a master at the YA genre.

Skillfully written with authentic characters and a beautiful story, don't miss this one!
