Off The Record by Sawyer Bennett ~ Review

Source: Received an eBook copy from the author in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Book Description:

The sparks of dislike burn hot, but the sparks of mutual attraction burn even hotter.

Ever Montgomery suffered the ultimate betrayal by the one man who she should have been able to count on for anything. It has left her hurt, jaded and incapable of forming relationships, but it also means that she can spot a liar a mile away. These traits are earning her a reputation as a reporter with a keen nose for a good story and a complete understanding of the extreme power of the written word.

Lincoln Caldwell, is the hot goalie for the New York Rangers. At twenty-four and a rising star, he works hard and he plays even harder. He’s gorgeous and carefree—the ultimate charmer. Ladies fall at his feet and the single life has never been lived the way Linc Caldwell does it.

When Ever publishes an article about Linc containing information that she received off the record, she finds herself on the receiving end of the athlete’s fury. Rather than basking in the glory of exposing Linc as a shameless user of women, she finds herself at his mercy when he demands and receives retribution. Required by her editor to trail Linc for six weeks, Ever is forced to look at the real Linc Caldwell.

And she just might find that she has misjudged him.

My Thoughts:

4 stars - Linc is beyond yummy!

Hmmmmm...how do I describe reading this book to you?  Let's just say that I have learned a new level of stuckness when I read Sawyer Bennett books.  I find that I don't notice the time or what's up around me.  I just read...and read.  This book captured my attention and I pretty much devoured it in a few hours.

I'm starting with Ever this time.  Shocking, I know.  Here's the thing with Ever, I didn't like her at first.  I mean I really didn't like her.  What she does to Linc is so unfair and mean that I was not sure I could get over it.  I really didn't want to give her another chance.  Why did I?  Cause Linc did.  Ever has been hurt in the past by her father and a cheating ex-fiance.  She shouldn't take that out on Linc, but I do see how she was affected by it.  Being in her head helps me understand her better and by the end I'm cheering for her.

No need to sell me on Linc.  He's Nix's brother and that's enough for me.  I do think I love Nix the best but Linc is a close second.  He's gorgeous and talented but he's a great guy too.  He proves it time and time again.  I really couldn't believe he gave Ever a second chance but he did.  I loved how he figured out his feeling for Ever.  I loved how he tried very hard to move on with his life but so couldn't.  I loved him completely.

I did struggle with a couple little things.  The whole six-week following thing seemed unrealistic to me.  I like it but really couldn't see it happening.  The story was similar to Nix's story and I wish that wasn't the case.  But the fact is that the story worked.  A girl that's been hurt and iced her heart meets a guy that's misunderstood as a player when he's not and the rest is just fun to watch.

The steam level is high.  These two can't get enough of each other and while there was no "undress for me" scene like in Nix's story, there was this fabulous one where he gives her 30 seconds to get naked and in bed before he strips her himself.  Totally sexy.  Oh and the trip to Wyoming was perfect.  I love it when there is enough story for great moments between characters before something pulls them apart.

As I said, I read this one in a few hours totally stuck in it.  The pace is perfect.  If you've read the first two in this series, then this one is a must.  My favorite of the series is Off Limits, book 2 but I loved this one too.

New adult and very much not for teens, this book rocks.
