Sleight Tour ~ Week 1 (Review & GIVEAWAY)

Today StuckInBooks is excited to join the WinterHaven Sleigh Tour hosted by WinterHaven Books. This week, we are posting our choice of a Winter Book Review. To see who else is on the sleigh, go to WinterHaven Sleigh Tour for a list of participating blogs.

The very first review I ever did on StuckInBooks was a Rachel Hawthorne book almost two years ago.  I reviewed Full Moon (Dark Guardian 2).  I had only just discovered PNR and I so loved them.  After I read that series, I hunted down EVERY book that Rachel Hawthorne had written.  I loved her writing.  This book turned up in the mix.  I never reviewed this book on StuckInBooks so it's about time I did.

From Goodreads:

Well, apparently I live here now--my mom just bought the place. And named it after me, Ashleigh, which was nice. But did she know how cold it is here

Um, it's a tiny island with not much to do, unless you really like sleigh rides. But I gotta say there are quite a few hot guys on this cold island . . .

My Thoughts:

5 stars -  Fun & fast YA romance that's perfect for December!

I actually read this a while ago but when I decided to include this review, I picked it up again.  It felt wonderful falling back into its pages.  Ashleigh (Ash) has this fun internal dialog that I find myself giggling at.  Moving from TX to an island in the Great Lakes, in winter!! Talk about culture shock for this girl! She takes it in stride, trying to be supportive of her mother who needs to get away from TX and her ex.  Facing a small school and very few kids her own age, Ash tries to fit in while resisting the urge to have boyfriend.  Apparently, that's the thing here and she's so not into it.  After watching her parents and besides it's more fun to date guys than to have a boyfriend.  One of the native may try and change her mind about that, though.  So fun.  Need more convincing, check this little tidbit out.

I rolled over and sighed.  It was still dark and dreary, but my internal clock told me I needed coffee.

Wearing my not-so-sexy flannel trousers and long-sleeved shirt, I clambered out of bed and put on my fuzzy purple slippers.  Shivering, I slipped on my thick robe, but didn't bother to tie it.  I was going to head quickly down the stairs to the bathroom, where hopefully I could find more warmth, along with my toothbrush and hairbrush.

I dashed down the narrow steps.  When I got to the bottom of the stairs, I turned into the hallway and came up short.

A lumberjack was standing there.

Or at least that's what he looked like.  A really young, really hot lumberjack.  he was tall and broad, with midnight black hair that curled around his ears and across his brow, creating the perfect frame fo rhis startling blue eyes.

He grinned.  "Hey." (page 44-45)

It's a fun one for sure!!  Did I mention that Ash is so NOT a morning person! Really need to read to rest of that scene.  If you love a fun, sweet YA romance, then this one is to be picked up for sure!

  3. Snowed In sounds super cute!! Ash sounds like a great character. Dash and Lily's Book of Dares is the audiobook I am listening to right now, but honestly am having a hard time with it. I love the story, I just don't love the readers. I think I would enjoy the book much more just reading it instead of listening.
