Crave by Tracy Wolff ~ Review & Giveaway

Available April 7th from Entangled Teen

My whole world changed when I stepped inside the academy. Nothing is right about this place or the other students in it. Here I am, a mere mortal among gods…or monsters. I still can’t decide which of these warring factions I belong to, if I belong at all. I only know the one thing that unites them is their hatred of me.

Then there’s Jaxon Vega. A vampire with deadly secrets who hasn’t felt anything for a hundred years. But there’s something about him that calls to me, something broken in him that somehow fits with what’s broken in me.

Which could spell death for us all.

Because Jaxon walled himself off for a reason. And now someone wants to wake a sleeping monster, and I’m wondering if I was brought here intentionally—as the bait.

I'm so grateful to Entangled Teen for sending me this book early.  I will admit that I love the cover but I wasn't sure I had time to read it.  One evening, I picked it up to just look a bit.  I wasn't intending to start reading it.  But... the best laid plans.

Yeah, the story pulled me in from the beginning with the humor, the mystery and the sexy guy who can't seem to leave Grace alone.  Who can resist a girl being forced to relocate to an Alaskan boarding school and meeting an incredible gorgeous guy who wants her to leave immediately.  Not this reader.

The story is a bit of a mystery as Grace tries to figure out who's trying to kill her and why everyone hates her.  I could see the different monsters around her but she took a little longer to figure it out.  It may have been the altitude sickness or the failed attempts on her life clouding her mind.  Not to mention the massive castle where she lives.  Mostly, I think she had fallen for Jaxon.

I love both of these characters.  Grace has just lost her parents and her only family is in Alaska.  She's trying to adjust to the life altering lose and everything around her being strange.  Despite people being incredibly mean to her, she has a kind heart.  Even in her first meeting with Jaxon when he tried to throw her out of the castle, she found a way to make a connection with him.  I admired her spirit.  She stood up to people and didn't let them walk all over her.  She kept trying.  And something she says at the end of the book speaks to her character so much.  I won't spoil anything by telling you what it was.

As for Jaxon, I thought I hated him at first.  He was really mean to Grace.  Okay, she may not know it but he's got his feeling on lock down.  The problem was that she melted his ice.  From that first meeting, she makes a connection with him.  He's rocked by that.  It was so fun to watch him try to avoid her, try to ignore her.  Yeah, good luck with that.  In the end, I fell for Jaxon.  When I learned his story, I was so happy Grace was able to melt his ice.  They belong together.

I'm completely in love with this world and cannot wait for more.  I adore magic that exists right in the middle of our normal world.   I enjoyed the many monsters that were at the school.  One in particular made me mad.  He seemed nice and all but he made poor life choices.  I would have been okay if Jaxon had removed the problem.   Another character, I saw through her happy smile but wasn't sure what she was planning.  I did not trust her though.  While I was figuring out a lot as we went along, I didn't see that ending coming at all.  Take about cliffhanger.  I need book two NOW.

I have something to say about the people who think this is a poor knockoff of Twilight.  No.  Just no.  People!  One or two small plot points are similar but that's where things end.  Jaxon is so not Edward and Grace is nothing like Bella - THANK GOODNESS.  Because as much as I may have loved Twilight, Crave is so much better.

Pre-order this book and schedule some time on release day to devour it.  You will be glad you did.  Then I won't be alone waiting for more.
