Slave to Sensation (Psy-Changeling #1) by Nalini Singh ~ Review

Slave to Sensation (Psy-Changeling, #1)Source: Purchased

Slave to Sensation (Psy-Changeling #1) by Nalini Singh

Nalini Singh dives into a world torn apart by a powerful race with phenomenal powers of the mind-and none of the heart.

In a world that denies emotions, where the ruling Psy punish any sign of desire, Sascha Duncan must conceal the feelings that brand her as flawed. To reveal them would be to sentence herself to the horror of "rehabilitation" - the complete psychic erasure of everything she ever was...

Both human and animal, Lucas Hunter is a changeling hungry for the very sensations the Psy disdain. After centuries of uneasy coexistence, these two races are now on the verge of war over the brutal murders of several changeling women. Lucas is determined to find the Psy killer who butchered his packmate, and Sascha is his ticket into their closely guarded society. But he soon discovers that this ice-cold Psy is very capable of passion - and that the animal in him is fascinated by her. Caught between their conflicting worlds, Lucas and Sascha must remain bound to their identities - or sacrifice everything for a taste of darkest temptation.

Val has been super into this series for a while now and has been recommending it to me every chance she's had. After buying this first book about a year ago, I FINALLY picked it up last month and man, oh man, am I glad I did. Val is totally right. This series is amazing and addictive. And this first book is the perfect beginning step into it all.

I was kind of intimidated to pick Slave to Sensation up, because I wanted to like it so badly. But while I tip-toed my way through the beginning of the novel -- I can also strongly say that I was invested in the characters and where their story was going fairly early on. Largely because Sascha and Lucas and their BANTER. It endeared me to this book right away.

I also liked learning about these characters. Sascha was interesting. Learning about her and how she was SUPPOSED to be (according to her race) compared to how she ACTUALLY acted. And then Lucas and his confident yet protective alpha (literally -- he's alpha of his pack) ways. It was easy to like these two, and even easier to root for them to be together.

Which, speaking of, THE ROMANCE. I. Loved. It. It was pretty steamy, which is fun. But it also had a fair balance of sweet, which I am always fond of. Plus, Lucas and Sascha had an emotional connection that was practically tangible. So basically, they had all the elements I enjoy reading in couples.

Then there's this great big world Nalini Singh creates. It's elaborate and full of possibilities and so dang FASCINATING. I loved getting introduced to it all with Slave to Sensation -- with Lucas and Sascha's story. And meeting a whole slew of other characters that I look forward to seeing and hearing more from as the series progresses. There's so much possibility here, and I'm exciting to work my way through it!

Overall, Slave to Sensation is a strong beginning to an addictive series that I can't wait to read more of! If you're looking for an adult paranormal romance series and you haven't given this one a shot yet, I really think you should get on that. But be sure to have the next book or three on hand, because I am so serious when I say this is a series to obsess over!

4 stars - An amazing and addictive start to the series!
