Lead by Kylie Scott ~ Review

Source:  Gift from Jess

Stay up all night with the sexy rockers in Stage Dive, the epic New Adult series from New York Times bestselling author Kylie Scott, author of Lick and Play.

As the lead singer of Stage Dive, Jimmy is used to getting whatever he wants, whenever he wants it, whether it's booze, drugs, or women. However, when a PR disaster serves as a wake-up call about his life and lands him in rehab, he finds himself with Lena, a new assistant to keep him out of trouble.

Lena's not willing to take any crap from the sexy rocker and is determined to keep their relationship completely professional, despite their sizzling chemistry. But when Jimmy pushes her too far and Lena leaves, he realizes that he may just have lost the best thing that ever happened to him.

As I read the first two books in this series, I wasn't really a fan of the lead singer, Jimmy.  As a result, I was nervous about reading this one.  But Jess loved it so I dived into the pages and I'm so glad I did.

I'm a very character driven reader.  I need those connections with the characters and they need to feel real to me.  Jimmy is real.  As I learned why he was the way he was in the first two books, I forgave him for being an a$$.  Then I fell for him.  He's cuddle worthy and needs someone who will stand up to him pushing them away.  Despite being a rock star with more money than sense, he's not a happy person.  His depth of pain is bottomless and profound.  He's used drugs and alcohol to deal with it in the past.  Now he has to face it.  Not always kind and needing instruction in social skills, he nonetheless found a place in my heart.

As for Lena, she's one strong women.  Not only does she stand up to him and refuse to be pushed away but she also cares for him the way he needs.  I was equal parts proud of her and jealous of her.  She's his sobriety partner and has lasted the longest of anyone.  He pushes and she pushes back.  Girl doesn't put up with his $hit.  Really liked that about her.  I enjoyed how their story progressed, especially moments of social skills instruction.  Adorable really.

I've loved every book in this series and have been surprised that I continue to feel that way.  Not every author can maintain that level of perfection over so many books but this one does it.

Great characters that I love, a story I can't stop reading and great writing...who could ask for more.

  1. Jimmy is actually my second favorite, I like him best after Mal. The last book, well let's say I liked Ben until I read the last book. Then I didn't like him as much. But, I do love the whole series. And this was a very good book as well. Great review!
