Shards of Hope (Psy/Changeling, #14) by Nalini Singh ~ Review

Source: Purchased the audiobook

The “smoldering heat, epic romance, and awesome action” of Nalini Singh’s New York Times bestselling series continues as two Arrows find themselves caught in a chilling conspiracy that spans all three races…
Awakening wounded in a darkened cell, their psychic abilities blocked, Aden and Zaira know they must escape. But when the lethal soldiers break free from their mysterious prison, they find themselves in a harsh, inhospitable landscape far from civilization. Their only hope for survival is to make it to the hidden home of a predatory changeling pack that doesn’t welcome outsiders.

And they must survive. A shadowy enemy has put a target on the back of the Arrow squad, an enemy that cannot be permitted to succeed in its deadly campaign. Aden will cross any line to keep his people safe for this new future, where even an assassin might have hope of a life beyond blood and death and pain. Zaira has no such hope. She knows she’s too damaged to return from the abyss. Her driving goal is to protect Aden, protect the only person who has ever come back for her no matter what.

This time, even Aden’s passionate determination may not be enough—because the emotionless chill of Silence existed for a reason. For the violent, and the insane, and the irreparably broken…like Zaira.

Review...

I have adored every book in this series and this one is no exception.  Such a dynamic world that allows for so many stores that continue to be so good.

For the first time, the story is about two Psy.  One of them is the somewhat mysterious Aden.  Everyone has thought him lacking in power but it's been hinted at that that is not true.  I've been curious about what his power is.  We learn in this book. And I am amazed that there can still be such incredible discoveries in the fourteenth book.

I love Aden.  He's protective ad strong.  Taking his leadership seriously, he's there for the squad and for Zaira.  Life has not been kind to Zaira but Aden has always been there for her.  She's not willing to risk Aden so she tries to keep her distance.  She's a tough one to crack and only the patient Aden could be up to the task.  I loved them together.

What's different about this book is the amount of overarching story line that takes place.  And it's clear that there is so much more to come.  That's exciting.  I will admit that there may have been too much story beyond this couple.  I understand why it needed to happen but it had me setting this book down a lot.  I missed the Changelings too.  The best ones in this series have included a Psy and a Changeling.

I have caught-up with the series and now I wait.  So what do I do?  I started re-reading from the beginning.  It's been so enjoyable, I just couldn't let it go.  Can't wait for book 15.

If you haven't read this series and you enjoy the paranormal romance books, then you need to get on it.  Book 15 comes out in June.  I'm ready.  Are you?
