Everneath by Brodi Ashton

Source: ARC copy from HarperTeen in exchange for a fair & honest review.

My Summary:

Nikki Beckett's been missing the last six months.  She willing went to the underworld, desperate to rid herself of the emotions that broke her heart into pieces.  In the arms of the gorgeous Cole, Nik's emotions have slowly left her leaving only one face.  A boy's face.  When the feed is over, Nik can't remember much but she does know she has to see that boy again.  So she returns to the surface before she has to return to the underworld for good.  But when the smoldering immortal follows Nik back to the surface, she learns he intents to make her his queen.

My Thoughts:

4 stars - a great read

Start with some pretty unique interpretations of underworld myths, add some hot immortals sucking energy from humans and a devastated teenager and you have a fabulous read.  I loved the world that Brodi build for this book.  I've read a lot of Greek Myth anchored books.  I really enjoy them.  But this one isn't the same old thing with different names.  This world is different enough that I needed to figure things out from the clues given in the book and yet it still had all the things I love about Greek Myth books.

There are strong characters that I really enjoyed.  I will admit that it took me a while to connect with Nik.  She is so empty at the beginning of the book after being in the feed for 100 years that I was like, whatever.  Because of this it took me a little longer to get into this book that normal.  Enter Jack.  Once I connected with Jack, this book took off for me and I loved it.  Jack is this incredibly strong guy that just doesn't give up.  I liked how he was patient with Nik but kept coming back.  I cannot wait to find out what's next for Jack.  As for Cole, I really loved him from the beginning and then sort of thought better of it.  Still like him but he's not Jack.

The plot was tricky.  The scenes traded from before and after the feed relating time to when Nik would have to return to the underworld.  I got impatient with it sometimes but at that same point that Jack captured my heart, the plot did the same.  Then I just flew through the book.

If you like the Greek Myths and the impossible situation kinda books, then this is a great YA book to pick up.

  1. I loved Jack too :)

I probably wouldn't have liked this one as much if it hadn't been written so well! The writing sucked me in!

  3. I love this book too. I agree that Jack is the better choice, though Cole is tempting :)
