Shadow Highlander by Donna Grant ~ Review

The Dark Sword series captures all the power, passion, and magic of Scotland’s legendary warriors—sworn to fight for victory, in battle and in love…

HE CAN FEEL HER MAGIC

Sent on a dangerous mission into the shadowy world of the Druids, Galen must find a powerful ancient relic to defeat the enemies of MacLeod Castle. But what he discovers is far more powerful—and far more dangerous. A Druid lass whose beauty is as spellbinding as any magic…

CAN HE FREE HER SOUL?

Reaghan is the most enchanting woman Galen has even met—and the most enigmatic. She alone is immune to his mind-reading gifts. He alone makes her feel safe and secure. But Reaghan holds a secret power deep inside her that could destroy them both. And if Galen hopes to hold this captivating woman in his arms every night, he must defeat the darkness that draws closer around her every day…

Galen is a Warrior and has the power to read other's minds.  The problem is that he can't control it.  With any touch, he knows what's in a person's mind.  It's made him distant and troubled.  No wonder he volunteered to go in search of an artifact.  And it's also no surprise that he found much more.

I enjoyed this story a lot.  The pacing was better than some of the books in this series have been.  Some of the books have felt like we were waiting for something to happen - just filling time and pages.  Not this one.  The story flowed well.

The relationship between Galen and Reaghan developed more naturally than some in this series have.  There was attraction and interest that grew into more.  Sure Reaghan hadn't been around many males, if any, her age but I didn't feel the sting of instalove at all.

Reaghan has a gift of being able to tell when someone is lying.  That helped her trust Galen quickly and learn to depend on him to protect her.  It also seemed that his touch soothed the headaches she was experiencing.  She is a bit of a mystery, even to herself.  I enjoyed how that part of the story unfolded.

Of course, the issue of Deidre has yet to be solved.  She is this evil being that I really hope gets hers.  Along with her, I'd like to take out a few others that either support her or don't actively fight her.  I'm hoping the next book sees the end of the cruel B.

There are some interesting series long plot lines that I hope to find answers to in the next book as well.  I wonder about...oh never mind.  They are all too spoilery to discuss.  I just want some answers so I'm reading on.

The world continues to interest me and excited to move to the spin-off series next.  I again, don't see an issue with someone reading this stand alone.  The author does a good job of giving enough information that it all makes sense.

This one is magic filled and captivating...good stuff right there.
