The fact that she and Julian are civil to one another is enough to have her thrown out of the Sanctuary, but she can't shake her not-so-angelic stalker or how he brings her dangerously close to ecstasy.
Her forbidden relationship with Julian provides the perfect fuel for suspicion when a traitor is discovered to be working within the Sanctuary. Lily quickly finds herself hunted by well, everyone.
Her only hope is to discover the real traitor before she loses everything--and she'll need Julian's help. That is, if Julian is really there to help her...and not destroy her.
Yeah, being a Nephilim isn't everything it's cracked up to be.
My Thoughts:
4 stars- The characters make this one
First Impressions...
It's by my favorite author, nuff said. The Characters...
I LOVE Julian. From the moment he was introduced, I was in love. He's sexy and protective. I never doubted him and I'm not sure why. He's a fallen angel and shouldn't be trusted but his actions and feeling say something else. It's clear who he is.
As for Lily, she's spunky and sarcastic with a huge helping of "I can kick your behind while I polish off this carton of Ben & Jerry's". But what I really liked about her was that she was trying to figure out who she was. Julian saw her. She only saw herself as duty and obligation. The more time she spent with Julian, the more she realized that wasn't enough.
Michael is a interesting character. He surprised me. I figured out a lot of what was coming in this book but not him. I'm hoping he will have part in the next book because I really like him. And now that I know what I do about him, I want to see more.
The Story...
I was pretty surprised when I started this one. It's not typical of a JLA book. Her books are normally from one or two POVs but this one is from many different POVs. I've always had a hard time with books like that. It takes longer to connect with the characters and it somehow feels like you miss parts when you're in someone else's head. Once I connected with Lily, I was okay with this. It's not my favorite style but it worked. The sexy level was high. I loved the heat between Lily and Julian. I could read about him kissing her all day long.
I enjoyed the world the author created. It's got a few twists on the angel lore. I liked that. I was able to figure out most of the twists and turns ahead of time. But I still enjoyed the journey.
Could I Put It Down...
Well, I didn't have to so I didn't. I was off work for a day so I read it pretty much straight through. In The End...
It's not my favorite JLA book but I still loved it. I want more. I do think the multiple POVs may cause people to not like it. But if you're into angel stories or love JLA then you should read this book.About the author

I actually enjoyed this one a lot, mostly because it was so different from her other books and also because I enjoy adult paranormal to begin with! Also because I fell in love with Julian.
ReplyDeleteArmentrout's books can be so addictive. This sounds really different from anything else she's written.
ReplyDeleteThis does seem like a fun book. I'm glad you liked it.
ReplyDeleteLove the review. I can't wait to get time for this one.
ReplyDeleteWonderful Review Val! I agree, that I am not usually fond of more than dual point of views. I usually get a little confused, and have trouble connecting. I loved this story, and the characters made it for me too. Julian and Lily were great, and I love Angel lore. Thanks for sharing :)

While not my fave too, it def is good. I think its bc this is one of the 1st books she's ever written, so you can see that in her writing. Can't wait to read the rest of the series though.
ReplyDeleteGlad you liked this. It sounds like a good read.
