London, 1814
Remington Hawthorne, Earl of Latham, has spent his life protecting the Crown. When he's assigned to play the part of lover to Emma Masterson, one of the few female spies in England and the one woman he can't forget, he'll have to risk his heart as well as his life.
It isn't easy being an independent woman, much less a spy. Perpetually tasked with proving she is as valuable as any man in her profession, the last thing Emma needs is to be reunited with the one man who makes her want to forget her duties and get lost in passion.
Pretending to be his mistress isn't difficult—remembering that it is all a charade is a challenge. With every glance, every touch, every kiss, she is drawn deeper under his spell and pulled further from her goals. She refused him once, but it will take every ounce of strength to not give in to the passion that still burns strong...

"I don't need the practice," she said, pulling free of his arms. "I can play the part of your mistress without your heated kisses." "I didn't kiss you to practice. I kissed you because I wanted to. Get used to it, sweetheart." (Kindle location 748)
Mini Review
These 99 pages zipped by and I thoroughly enjoyed every one. It's been years since I read any historical romance. It was one of my first reading passions as a teen. I read every Harlequin Romance I could get my hands on. What I loved about them were that in about a hundred pages, I could find a problem, a sexy guy, a girl that wasn't always in tune with the times and a resolution. This one was no different.
Emma grew up watching her mother be dependent on men. Moving from one to the next always looking for one to take care of her. Emma didn't want that. She wanted to be able to take care of herself. That led her to become a spy and into the arms of Remy.
Remington wants to protect Emma and his attraction cannot be fought, though he tries. What he discovers is that they make a great team. And he's more than attracted - this boy has it bad.
It's a fast read and very straight forward. Anyone who loves historical will want this. And this was the first book I read after my puppy came home. We snuggled and I read. It just made me so happy.
Nice tease. And that covers kind of steamy too.

It has been a while since I have sat down and read a good old fashioned historical romance. Really loved that tease and I'm liking the sound of this book
ReplyDeleteNice teaser! Seems we had very similar reading styles as teens. Glad you liked this!
