Hope Fames by Jaci Burton ~ Review & GIveaway

Source: Received paperback copy from the publisher in exchange for a fair and honest review.

When it comes to love, they already know the rules...by heart.

Thirty-two and finally setting up her veterinary practice in the town she once called home, Emma Burnett is on her own and loving it.  Independent and driven, she's not letting any man get in the way of her dreams.  Not again.

That's fine with Luke McCormack.  Divorced and hardly lacking in female company when he needs it, he's devoted o the only faithful companion in his life--his police dog.  Still, there's something about Emma he can't shake.

When a series of local break-ins leaves Emma vulnerable, she seeks help from the first man to spark her desire in years.  And now they're giving each other something they thought they'd lost forever...hope.

My Thoughts:

4 stars - When you're not looking is the perfect time to find!

Two people who have very different reasons for being single but neither can resist the sparks that pop between them, that's Hope Flames.  I enjoyed this one a lot.  Hot cop with dog means this story has some danger in it and I loved that.  It's nice when the story has more than romance in it.  Got to have have a scene here or there to cool off in, right?  And you will need to cool off in this one - lots of yummy hot scenes.

I really liked Luke.  His marriage ended when his wife left him for the big city.  But he doesn't need a relationship.  There are enough women willing to spend some time with him that he doesn't need anything else but his faithful dog, Boomer.  I really loved Boom.  He steals the show at least once and that was fun.  His sexy owner was even better with him around.

Emma is interesting.  She has a past that's got her refusing to trust anyone.  She doesn't need a man to protect her or control her.  It stops her with Luke.  I liked that while she had to overcome her issues, she didn't burn any bridges to do it.  And Luke gets it.  That was nice.

This was my first Jaci Burton book but it won't be my last.  It's a fast read and would be great for anyone who loves romance, danger and dogs in their books.

Some teaser for ya...

He tipped her chin and brushed his lips against hers.  Her breath held and she felt that brush of a kiss all the way to her toes, and every delicious part of her in between.

He stepped away. "Just a friendly kiss.  Nothing more."  Page 54

The room suddenly seemed devoid of oxygen, both of them gasping for breath as Luke deepened the kiss.

Yeah, it was just like he thought it would be--all hot and fiery passion.  he let his hands roam her back, touching her the way he'd wanted to touch her since he'd first laid eyes on her, mapping every luscious curve while she tightened her hold on his hair, every whimper escaping her throat making him painfully harder.  Page 73

"So, are you afraid to be alone with me?"

"No."  Thought that wasn't exactly the truth.  And they weren't alone right now.  That she knew of.

"Good.  Then you won't mind if I kiss you."

Her eyes widened.  "What?  Here?"

"Shhh.  It won't hurt.  I promise." Page 147

"I need a pop.  Would you like something?"

"Kitchen sex would be great, thanks." Page 256

  2. I love your description of Luke. As I'm a little older, the guys I meet have "pasts" so this will be a semi-realistic contemporary read for me. I think I will get drawn to Luke and his relationship with Emma.

Happy New Year & I hope your Christmas was awesome!
