Barnes & Noble:
....I felt my bed dip and sighed, “I’m getting up now.”
“I should hope so. You wouldn’t want me to be late on my first day.”
I squeaked and frantically pus
hed the covers from my head ma king a tangled mess of my hair . I shoved the hair out my face, spitting out the pieces that stuck to my lips, to glare at the figure s itting at the foot of my bed.
He grinned, “That’s an interes
ting look for you. What do you call it?” I brushed my hair down again and sat up trying to find my voice amidst the shock of him being in my room—of appearing in my room. “You’ve got about ten mi nutes before I need to pop you over to the fam so hop to it, love, an d I’ll give you your reward.”
I put my hands on my hips, cau
sing the blanket to pool in my lap. The teasing look left hi s eyes as he took in my shoulders, bared by the spaghe tti straps of my V-neck tank. His eyes roamed over the exposed skin, each pause of his glance a visual caress. I crossed my arms, unintentionally reveali ng even more of myself to him, and he inhaled sharply. His eyes flashed to mine, and he searched my face.
He slid along the edge of the bed to where I had my back pressed against the wall, his gaze never leaving mine. I was effectively caged
in, his body on one side of me and the arm he was leaning on placed by my opposite hip. He radiated heat into the infi nitesimal gap that separated our bodies. My lips parted on a swiftly in drawn breath, and when he glanced down at them, I bit the bottom one in anticipation . Chase groaned softly, and heat flared in his eyes.Bracing a hand on the wall beside my head, he le aned in closer. With the other he cupped my face, rubbing hi s rough thumb over the smoothn ess of my cheek.
We inhaled short shallow gasps through our mouths, and he dipped his head, stopping just short of the spot I ached to have him touch. My li
ps tingled in anticipation.
“Why can’t I get you out my head?”
The vapor of his breath tasted sweet as I inhaled, and I waited for him to move that last excruciating millimeter.
