Facade by Nyrae Dawn ~ Review & Giveaway

Source:  Received an eBook from the publisher in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Can love save them?

After her father commits a crime that shatters her family, eighteen-year-old Delaney Cross is tired of pretending everything is all right. Packing up her car, she sets out to find the people her father hurt. Her search leads her to places she’s never been—and into the arms of Adrian Westfall.

To the outside world, Adrian is a sexy, charming ladies’ man. But his playboy persona is just an act. Secretly his soul is tortured by a memory too painful to share. Only Delaney seems to see through his façade to the real man underneath. And for the first time in his life, Adrian feels he can begin to open up about his past.

Together, Adrian and Delaney share a passionate love they never expected to find. Yet both still harbor their own secrets. When the dark truth is finally revealed, will it bring them closer together—or tear them apart forever?

My Thoughts:

5 stars - I just want to cuddle Adrian all day long!

I cannot get this one off my mind.  I picked this up between tour books because I wanted something I knew would be great.  How did I know it would be great? It's written by Nyrae Dawn, of course.  Her characters are always deep and her plot is always throwing things at me I don't expect.  I never notice the clock when I'm reading her books.  This one sure didn't disappoint.

Gonna start with Adrian.  OMG.  This boy is so broken.  He hides his pain from even his closest friends.  They know he's a thinker and they know he has issues but they have no clue what they are.  He hides behind the parties that turn up at his house.  He hides in his writing and his reading.  He hides by taking long, wondering drives by himself.  And he hides from the reader.  I thought I understood his pain but I didn't.  He hide from me too.  And when I finally saw all his pain as he finally let everyone see, I cried for him.  I cried for the boy who had been beaten by his father.  I cried for the boy who vomited as his father raped his mother.  I cried for the boy that played hide and seek.  Then I wanted to hold him and just be there with him.  Be his paper for him the way that Delaney did.  And I could not put this book down until I knew how it would end.  I couldn't stop thinking about him when I was done.  I wanted to start over and reread.  I wanted to stay in his world.  I wanted to seem him smiling and laughing with his little ghost.

Yes, that little ghost of his is Delaney.  She makes a poor choice to lie to him from the moment she learns his name.  She's attracted to him but that's not her purpose.  Her life sucks too.  Her mom keeps trying to kill herself and is so mean to Delaney.  Her father lied and cheated their family.  Delaney is clearly miserable.  But she's blaming herself for things that she didn't do and she's trying to fix things for everyone.  She waits too long to come clean but I was so pleased that it was her that told him and not him finding out for himself.  Somehow that felt better to me.  And I can't really be mad at Delaney.  She loves Adrian so she can't be bad.  She saves him and that makes me happy.

I read this in a day - a few hours really.  It's so good I couldn't put it down.  It was just the break I needed.  This book has depth and characters I love and so much hope.

If NA is your new thing, like it is mine, then you MUST pick this one up.  It's soooo good.  You will not regret it.
