SECTION 3:
There’s definitely a brief, undefined movement from my right side. It’s there for a second and then gone. My heart starts pounding with something…. a premonition? An instinct?
I stand up and look over the tall waving grass that had obstructed my clear view.
There’s something there now.
A boy dressed in blue.
I suck in my breath and examine him.
He appears to be about my age, or maybe a couple of years older, and he’s standing on the sand. He hadn’t been there two seconds earlier. I’m sure of that. The reason I’m very sure of that is that there are no footprints leading to where he’s standing.
It’s as though he’d been set down in that exact place.
All thoughts of anything else that had happened prior in the day disappear from my head, as a strange feeling constricts my chest. I look up and down the length of the beach. There’s no one else with him.
I suddenly remember to breathe and my eyes fly back to him.
He’s staring right at me, his gaze concentrated and unmoving.
I stare back. He doesn’t flinch and he doesn’t look away as a normal person would.
His eyes bore straight into mine.
He’s suddenly closer, although he didn’t appear to have moved.

GUARDIAN Synopsis:
Sometimes, things that go bump in the night are real.
My name is Whitney Lane. I’m sixteen years old and at first, I thought I was crazy.
I kept seeing shadows move along walls, and hearing whispers around corners, but whenever I looked, there was never anything there.
Until one day, there was.
Our world isn’t what we think. There are things around us, good things, bad things, scary things.
Things that we tell ourselves aren’t real, but they are.
They’re very real, and they’re terrifying.
I’ve been swept up now, in a battle of good and evil, confused about love and what is supposed to be love, but isn’t. I don’t know what to think anymore. I can’t trust my emotions and I don’t know what is true.
There’s only one thing I know for sure.
Nothing is what it seems.

ABOUT COURTNEY COLE:
Courtney Cole is a novelist who would eat mythology for breakfast if she could. She has a degree in Business, but has since discovered that corporate America is not nearly as fun to live in as fictional worlds. She loves chocolate and roller coasters and hates waiting and rude people.
Courtney lives in quiet suburbia, close to Lake Michigan, with her real-life Prince Charming, her ornery kids (there is a small chance that they get their orneriness from their mother) and a small domestic zoo.
My favorite type of paranormal is the shifter romance storyline-especially the dragons ;)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Courtney on the new release. Thank you for the giveaway.
My favorite is vampires with werewolves a close second.

I like families of shifters where each generation can have more than one type of shifter because of the present parents and the fore-bearers.. I like dragons but there are not too many books about them, after that wolves and I did read a couple with lions in them by Jennifer Roberson, a beautiful writer outside the norm!

Sounds good!
ReplyDeleteProbably shifter as I love animals and the thought of being able to turn into one
ReplyDeleteMy favorite paranormal would be shifters or fairies.
ReplyDeleteI cannot wait to read this one! It sounds awesome and YAY for being excerpt hop day buddies!
ReplyDeleteI enjoy vampires & angels when reading paranormal. Thanks for the giveaway! :-)
ReplyDeleteI love everything that Courtney Cole writes! I love the book cover, and based on the excerpt, the boy sounds like a ghost/spirit. My favorite paranormal stories include books about angels/demons, and the grim reaper.
ReplyDeleteIf it is paranormal I will read it! This new book of Courtney Cole's sounds so good!
