Trick or Sweet Halloween Haunt ~ by Rachel Harris

Trick Or Sweet?

Haunted houses scare the snot out of me. Creepy songs give me the heebie-jeebies. And don’t even get me started on scary movies. The one time I watched The Exorcist, I had to follow it with four hours of cartoons just to scrub my brain clean, and even then, I jumped at every noise for a week.
I don’t do scary. I much, much prefer the sweet. Chocolate coated, please.
But candy isn’t the only thing that has scary-cats like me enjoying Halloween. It helps, sure. But the chance to dress up, pretend to be someone else? A free pass to let your imagination go completely wild? Sign me up for that!
Every October we get to be anyone—or anything—we want to be. It can be argued that Halloween is a holiday for children, what with the trick-or-treating fun. And yeah, once you reach a certain age, neighbors do begin turning you away at the door. Or at least giving you the stink eye while giving you goodies. But dressing up is universal.
When I was a little girl, I got my dress-up on, y’all. I was the cutest Strawberry Shortcake, Rainbow Brite, and C-3PO you’d ever seen. Granted one of those things is not like the others, but what can I say? I had a mad crush on Luke Skywalker.
Sure, when I outgrew trick or treating, Halloween changed a bit. Parties replaced the door-to-door bit, and my costumes became more elaborate. Through the years, I’ve been a vampire, a beauty queen, a hippie, a punk rocker, a witch, and a character from my book. But my favorite get up was junior year of high school, when I raided my 80’s gear and went completely tacky. It was our theme. And it was a blast.
If you can’t tell, I adore being silly. Being tacky, wearing crazy clothes, slippers, and big hair embraces the silly.

Oh, and one of the MANY bonuses of having kids is that once again crazy amounts of chocolate enter the holiday. The only change is that now you have to wait for the kids to crash to chow down ;)

Taste the Heat (Love and Games, #1) by Rachel Harris

One sexy fire captain. One Cajun chef, One combustible kitchen…

When chef Colby Robicheaux returned home to New Orleans to save her family restaurant, the last person she expected to reconnect with was her brother’s best friend and her childhood crush. As tempting as a sugar-coated beignet, Jason is one dish she doesn’t want to taste. Colby is counting down the days till she can leave the place where her distrust of love and commitment originated and go back to Vegas.

Fire captain Jason Landry isn’t looking for love, either. He knows he should focus on finding the perfect mother for his daughter, but when he first sees Colby, all grown up and gorgeous, he can’t help but be drawn to her. And when she suggests a no-strings-attached fling, Jason doesn’t want to say no.

As their relationship grows more intense, Colby finds that Jason isn’t as easy to leave behind as she thought. Could turning up the heat on something real be worth the possibility of getting burned?

Seven Day Fiance (Love and Games, #2) by Rachel Harris

Angelle Prejean is in a pickle. Her family is expecting her to come home with a fiancé—a fiancé who doesn’t exist. Well, he exists, but he definitely has no idea Angelle told her mama they were engaged. Tattooed, muscled, and hotter than sin, Cane can reduce Angelle to a hot mess with one look—and leave her heart a mess if she falls for him. But when she ends up winning Cane at a charity bachelor auction, she knows just how to solve her fiancé problem.

Cane Robicheaux is no one’s prince. He doesn’t do relationships and he doesn’t fall in love. When sweet, sultry-voiced Angelle propositions him, he hopes their little game can finally get her out of his head. He doesn’t expect her to break through all his barriers. But even as Angelle burrows deeper into his heart, he knows once their seven days are up, so is their ruse.

  4. Hi Valerie! Hi Rachel! Love all the costumes you've worn! I dressed tacky one year too. It was in college and my boyfriend's fraternity had a Halloween party called the Scary Hairball and everyone had to come as tacky as possible. It was a blast!

    Happy Halloween!

    1. Ha! This was in the early 80s where the costumes were like plastic trashbag type things with arm and head holes, and then a cheap mask with a string attached lol But I rocked it ;)

  7. I love Halloween!! I always dress up. Usually as a zombie because it's super fun, easy, and versatile. (I mean there are so many variations on what kind of zombie you can be) This year though, I have been to two parties. The first was a 50's sock hop and I had the whole poodle skirt thing going on, the second I was Wonder Woman. (And rocked it!!) I am big on candy of all sorts. Especially chocolate!!!
