Off Chance (Off, #5) by Sawyer Bennett
He is seeking absolution.
Flynn Caldwell has a hero complex and it’s one of the reasons he joined the New York City Fire Department. He has spent his entire professional career trying to atone for that one person he failed to save. Because, if he can do that, then perhaps he can be worthy of love again.
She is seeking escape.
Rowan Page’s life is nothing short of a disaster. Always immersed in trouble, she has only herself to depend on. She’s determined to pull herself out of this mess and make something of her life, despite the hard years she has lived on the streets of New York.
Together, they have the chance to become complete.
Flynn and Rowan’s worlds exist miles apart, but when a chance meeting brings them together, neither of them can deny the instant pull that connects them to each other. What starts as a tiny spark eventually flares into a fire so hot, it refuses to be extinguished.
For it to work, both of them will need to jump feet first into the flames to see where it takes them, despite the risk of being burned.
My Thoughts:
4 stars - HAWT fireman risking heart for absolution - I'm so in!
I'm in total lust and love with Flynn and his hero complex. This boy is adorable. Fireman with willingness to put himself at risk to save you - yes please! He gets in trouble for taking risks but he's looking for ways to gain absolution from the guilt of his past. Risking his heart on Rowan was not in the cards. He just wants to help her but she doesn't need help, she needs his love. Even as she pushes him away, he's falling for her and I loved how he played it. He's patient dealing with the emotional damage that is Rowan Page. He's sexy as he tempts her with his yumminess! He's sad and cute when he's hurt and I just want to huggle him!
Rowan Page doesn't need anyone and she's certainly not falling for the sexy as hell Flynn. Though she does take some help, friendship is more than she's ever had and will do just find, thank you very much. I'm not sure I was huge fan of Rowan. She annoyed me too much. I get why's she this way but I still didn't care for her. A couple of times, I wanted to slap her silly and take poor Flynn away to huggle! But as she did evoke those emotions in me, she was well written. I just didn't like her.
The series makes a nice ending in this one although Sawyer has said there may be more. I liked the way it ended, though. We got to see all the yummy boys including my favorite, Nix. It felt very much like the last book. I loved how things were settled but not.
The story is fast paced and sexy. I read it in an evening. If you are a fan of this series, then you MUST read this one. If you haven't started it, then you need to get on that.

ReplyDeleteYes! Flynn is all kinds of awesome and I really did love the way this series ended. Although I would love a continuation, I'd be just as happy with things the way they are. I love Sawyer and her writing in general. Great review Val!
