Two secrets. One bet. Who will break first?
Taylor Caldwell can't decide if she wants to kiss her new college roommate or punch him.
On the one hand, Hunter Zaccadelli is a handsome blue-eyed bundle of charm. On the other, he's a tattooed, guitar-playing bad boy. Maybe that's why Taylor's afraid of falling in love with him, or anyone else. She doesn't want to get burned, so she needs him gone before it's too late.
Hunter himself has been burned before, but Taylor's sexy laugh and refusal to let him get away with anything make her irresistible. Determined not to be kicked out of her life without a fight, Hunter proposes a bet: if she can convince him she either truly loves or hates him, he'll leave the apartment;and leave her alone.
But when the man behind Taylor's fear of giving up her heart resurfaces, she has to decide: trust Hunter with her greatest secret, or do everything in her power to win that bet and drive him away forever.
My Thoughts:
3 stars - It's a good read.
Let me start with Hunter because I so loved him. He was very much a guy even though Taylor thought he was an ass. He teased and looked for ways to see her naked. He pushed buttons. He kept a pretty big secret. He got on Taylor's last nerve. But he also did dishes, kept his room clean, didn't leave hair in the sink and he could cook. He played the guitar, sang, was a great student, and was all kinds of gorgeous. Oh, and did I mention that he has tats? Yes, he does do the bad boy thing too. For some reason, that I never figured out, he fell hard for Taylor - or Missy as he called her. As he tried to convince her to give them a chance, he was such a great guy. He put up with some pretty cray cray stuff from Tay but he always came back for more. He supported her and helped her. He loved her. Can I have him? I so want him.
Taylor had a secret too. Her's was still consuming her. Her secret kept her from making healthy relationships with guys. While I was reading this book, I kept thinking - her secret better be huge for her to be acting like this. And it was a bad thing that happened to her. It helped me see at least a reason for why she was the way she was. But even as she figured things out, I realized my problem with Taylor wasn't her secret - it was just her. I didn't like her. I think it was her determination to be so independent. She wasn't willing to be a team with Hunter. Or maybe it was that her idea of a team was different than mine. I've never seen a couple bring 50/50 to the table in every aspect of their relationship. Everyone has talents or things they have more in abundance than the other. By combining those things, the team is stronger even if parts are unbalanced. She didn't believe in that. And I just couldn't like her.
Despite not liking Taylor, I enjoyed her and Hunter's story. Hunter probably had a lot to do with that. He truly had perfect guy down. The second half of the book moved faster for me and once I hit that point I sailed through the book.
This book is New Adult. It also has that two broken people that come together and heal each other aspect to it. It's not as sexy as most NA but there are parts that are yummy like that. It's a good read.
Since I listened to this book, I should say something about the narrator. Kate Rudd is the narrator and she does a great job with the voices. I could clearly tell people apart and I enjoyed listening to it. I had it on my kindle and went back and forth between the two. I have found, I love doing that.
