The Iron Knight

Thank you Netgalley and Harlequin teen for the early look at this book.

My Summary:

The Winter Prince is no more. Ash has given up everything for Meghan Chase and he would do it again. But he cannot follow her to the Iron Court and survive, the iron would kill him. She knows this and won’t let him sacrifice his life for her. So she banishes him and he is without her. He promised to find a way back to her and he can’t go back on that promise without losing his essences. Can he find a way to survive the Iron Realm? It requires a soul, a human soul. No Fey has ever survived the trials required for such a thing. Can the mighty Ash survive his greatest challenge ever? Will Meghan still want him even if he does?

My Thoughts:

5 stars – a must read

I’m not sure what I expected from the Iron Knight. Certainly, I was excited about the idea of getting inside Ash’s head. He is so quiet and brooding all the time. How can anyone not wonder what is going on behind those beautiful silver eyes. I expected the book to start with Ash and Puck tromping through the Wyldwoods looking for Grimalkin. That is what I got. But from there, the book took off on a wild ride that I never expected. Shock may be an understatement, for me as well as for Ash. They journeyed down paths that were physically hard only to reach emotional and mental trials that ripped and tore at them. I cried for Ash. I begged him to hang on. I worried and stressed for him. I came to love him more than I ever did before. Ash, the Iron Knight, had to grow and change. Can anyone, even the former Winter Prince, be expected to overcome so much?

And speaking of falling more in love with a character, Puck was the best. I admire him. What a hard thing for him to experience, to watch his best friend struggle to obtain something that would ensure his relationship with Meghan, the girl that Puck loves too.  Puck had so many chances to leave, to let it all go and deal with his own pain. He stayed. He became so real to me in this book. And, while I will always be team Ash, I love Puck.

Julie Kagawa is a master story teller. She wove this story from the past, the present and the future. She artfully structured the most painful and challenging story I have read in a long time. I wanted to read but I was scared to read. I wanted Ash to survive, to succeed but it was clear that he might not. And even if he did succeed, would Meghan still want him as a human? Finally, I could not put it down. I needed to know and now I do. You will want to know too. This is the best book in the series by far. If you haven’t started the series, I think you will want to read the rest just so you can read Iron Knight. If you have read the rest, you will want to pick this one up as soon as it’s available and clear your schedule because all you will want to do is find out what happens to Ash.

Iron Knight will be available October 25, 2011

  1. I loved this book :) I got it off Netgalley too and I think it was a great ending to an awesome series. That whole part where Ash lives his life and ends up dying while Meghan stays young and beautiful was so heartbreaking! I think I cried like a million times while I read this book! Ah! Awesome review :)
