I've always enjoyed this author and when I realized this book was PNR, I was so excited. My favorite genre is PNR so I scooped this up and dived right in.
The opening scene is just perfection. I love that Jonas is the body in the morgue where Ginny is working. Nothing like having him wake up to freak a girl out. Add to that vampires, humor and great characters and you have the recipe for a great read.
Vampires seem to on the way back in right now and that makes me happy. The lure behind these vampires is interesting and creates a lot of the trouble for this couple. Tucking inside modern society, these vampires are having some of there own social issues. Who looks after the newly made? Who teaches them the rules and makes sure they follow those rules? Seems like the person who made them should but that's not the case. It ends up being Jonas. I liked that about him. He cared about those who didn't have a choice or didn't get what they were agreeing to when they became a vampire. It's a little different than other stories, which is something I enjoyed.
There's a lot of humor in this book. From the beginning scene of Jonas waking up in the morgue to Ginny tangling with the vampire world, the author does a great job of finding the funny. I found myself giggling throughout the book.
All of the characters are so good. I loved the slayer who would kill them all "tomorrow" and the creepy mother-in-law that just wanted out of the funeral business. Of course, Ginny and Jonas are the stars of this book and I loved them both. They have a fated love that crosses time. I admit to loving soulmate stories and I really loved both of these characters.
The story was interesting and had me flipping the pages. This is a quick read that doesn't get mired down in a lot of world building. The story lets the world unfold around you as you read the story. I enjoy that very much.
This is a stand alone book with a happily ever after ending. There is another book in the series but I believe it's companion like. I'm excited to read it soon.
