#FightingTheStorm & #FreeTheOrigins ~ Giveaway

My Little Hershey Dog welcomes you to
#FightingTheStorm
#FreeTheOrigins
#StormAndFuryRP
#FindACure4RP

Inspired by Zan Mari Vosges and Kristen Plumridge, this idea is meant to bring awareness to finding a cure for the eye disease that plagues Jennifer L Armentrout.  After reading Storm and Fury, the first book in The Harbinger series, these two were so moved by Jen's portrayal of what it's like to have RP, they started Fight The Storm Campaign with a Facebook group.

Can You Still See The Stars At Night?

That quote comes from the book and from Jen.  Read this excerpt from her acknowledgments.

Writing, Storm and Fury was uniquely difficult for me.  It wasn't because it was a spin-off of a series I hadn't visited in a while, even though that is never easy.  I wasn't because I was expanding the world, rewriting it in a way.  It was because Trinity shared the same progressive eye disease as me.  Retinitis peigmentosa is a group of rather rare genetic disorders that involve the breakdown and eventual death of retina cells.  Less than 200,000 people suffer from it.  It's a progressive disease, typically resulting in significant constriction of vision (tunnel vision) or blindness.  There's no cure or treatment at this time.  If you're diagnosed with RP, you're going to get that talk.  The what-to-expect-in-the-future talk.  You're told that your vision will continue to shrink until there's nothing but a thin pinprick of vision left or nothing at all.  You won't know when it will happen.  How long it will take or when you will go blind, but you know it's coming.  It's scary.  No lie.  (excerpt from the acknowledgments of Storm and Fury page 505)

There is a scene in the book where Trinity and Zayne are looking at the stars and you get a good idea of what Trinity can see.

"Clear skies and all the stars."
Following his gaze, I squinted and was able to see the faint twinkles.  I know they were brighter to him and he could probably see a lot more.  I could see...four.  I closed my right eye.  Correction.  I could see three.  (page 216)

As a huge fan of this author, I am constantly amazed at how much she writes, how much she interacts with her fans and just how brave she is.  In her place, I would probably curl up in a ball and cry.  I am happy to call her a friend.  I am amazed by her.  So, I was happy to join this wonderful idea to draw attention to RP.  I can still see a lot of stars at night.  What about you?

To all the stars that Jen can still see in the night sky, I saute you.  You amaze me.

To bring attention to this effort, I am giving away a SIGNED copy of Storm and Fury, a bookmark, the book beau commemorative bag (that came with the pre-order of this book) and a mug with the awareness quote on it.

Eighteen-year-old Trinity Marrow may be going blind, but she can see and communicate with ghosts and spirits. Her unique gift is part of a secret so dangerous that she’s been in hiding for years in an isolated compound fiercely guarded by Wardens—gargoyle shape-shifters who protect humankind from demons. If the demons discover the truth about Trinity, they’ll devour her, flesh and bone, to enhance their own powers.

When Wardens from another clan arrive with disturbing reports that something out there is killing both demons and Wardens, Trinity’s safe world implodes. Not the least because one of the outsiders is the most annoying and fascinating person she’s ever met. Zayne has secrets of his own that will upend her world yet again—but working together becomes imperative once demons breach the compound and Trinity’s secret comes to light. To save her family and maybe the world, she’ll have to put her trust in Zayne. But all bets are off as a supernatural war is unleashed…

  19. I learned about a disease today that is incurable at this point in time. Thanks for sharing a personal story about this and raising awareness. We all need to promote scientific research to find ways to change the outcomes of so many devastating diseases.
