I'm never disappointed by this author and this read is no exception. This second chance romance packs so much more than a great story. The characters are living, breathing friends. The story is an elegant weaving of the past and the present. And the ending packs an emotional punch. It's classic K.A. Tucker at her finest.
I adore both Piper and Kyle. They are so different and yet so perfect together. Each have had struggles but in very different way. They are real and I just want to meet up with them to have a drink and talk about old times. My heart hurts for them and I cheer for them. I just love them.
The chapters in this story switch back and forth between the past and the present. Sixteen year old Piper at the summer camp where she was a counselor in one chapter and the next the very successful Ms. Calloway running a billion dollar business. The silly Kyle betting Piper he could guess her lie in two truths and a lie in one chapter and the stoic Kyle at the security desk in the next. I was amazed how things from the past just fit perfectly with what was happening in the present. They were masterfully woven together to tell the story of two people who fell in love with each other at first sight. And while they didn't see each other again after that long ago summer, they never forgot. And they couldn't really be kept apart forever. Such an amazing story.
As for the end, all I can say is that this author is really good at making me ugly cry. She stitches me back together but I always seem to fall apart when reading her books. She writes more than a romance book, it's an emotional slice of life with a sexy guy and lots of real. And, of course, a happy at the end.
