If There's No Tomorrow by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Lena Wise is always looking forward to tomorrow, especially at the start of her senior year. She's ready to pack in as much friend time as possible, to finish college applications and to maybe let her childhood best friend Sebastian know how she really feels about him. For Lena, the upcoming year is going to be epic—one of opportunities and chances.

Until one choice, one moment, destroys everything.

Now Lena isn't looking forward to tomorrow. Not when friend time may never be the same. Not when college applications feel all but impossible. Not when Sebastian might never forgive her for what happened.

For what she let happen.

With the guilt growing each day, Lena knows that her only hope is to move on. But how can she move on when her and her friends' entire existences have been redefined? How can she move on when tomorrow isn't even guaranteed?

The synopsis for this one is pretty vague. It definitely read like the kind of thing that ends up being an emotional journey, but as to WHAT the subject matter actually is remains a question mark. Which means going into If There's No Tomorrow, all I knew was that it's by JLA (which means it's likely to be a win of a book) and that I'd have to prepare for feels. And man, oh man, just those two things did not prepare for this book -- because If There's No Tomorrow hit me right in the heart and it's staying there for a while.

Lena is the main character of this novel, and she's a nice teen girl. She plays volleyball and has a cool group of friends and a boy next door who deserves all the heart eyes. Then something big happens, and she has to face it. I was so invested in her journey of working through her thoughts and feelings -- and especially seeing her navigate her relationships (both in friendship/more and family).

Jennifer L. Armentrout's writing always pulls me in. I have never put down a JLA book thinking "I'm bored" before, and this book was no exception. If There's No Tomorrow was crafted beautifully, however, in that while I wanted to read more, the whole time I was reading it I had SO MANY FEELINGS. My heart went through a lot, but it was so worth it because this book is lovely.

The romance in this one isn't a huge focus, but it does tie in well with the storyline -- and I was so here for it. Those doses of sweet were much enjoyed. Plus, Lena and Sebastian are such a cute couple. Things aren't easy for them (because nothing they have to deal with in this book is easy -- it's tough and heavy and heartbreaking), but they deserved to be the adorably perfect couple they are together.

If There's No Tomorrow is an emotional, moving story that I was completely unable to put down. It's dug its way into my heart and is one of the best YA contemporary novels I've read in a while -- another top notch novel for Jennifer L. Armentrout!

5 stars - A raw, emotional story that now has a place in my heart.

  1. It's been so long since I read a JLA book that it's making me miss her fun writing style! I think the last one was the third book of Obsidian series, or White Hot Kiss, whichever came last. Now I'm curious about her contemporary novels. Great review!

  2. I also read this book this week, along with another sad book about teens-- because I apparently like to torture myself, and I thought it was really good. I've never read a Jennifer Armentrout book that I didn't like!
