Changing His Game by Megan Erickson ~ Review & Interview

Source:  Received an eBook copy in exchange for a fair and honest review.

He controls the game, but she’s rewriting all the rules…

Marley Lake is no stranger to awkwardness, but getting caught watching a dirty GIF by the company’s hot new IT guy exceeds even her standards. That is, until she realizes he's as turned on by it as she is. But with a big promotion on the line, she refuses to let her current dry spell be her downfall. Maybe.

Austin Rivers has no business lusting after the irresistible editor of Gamers Magazine. He's a secret partner in the business—and technically Marley’s boss. One look at that GIF, though, and he’s ready to install a whole lot more than just software…as long as she never finds out who he really is.

But reality’s not as virtual as it seems, and when Austin’s identity jeopardizes Marley’s promotion, he has to change his game or risk losing the only woman with the cheat code to his heart.

 Review...

Gotta love Brazen books for the sexy and I so love this author too.

I really loved that Austin is a sexy boy that's not typical.  He doesn't like crowds and he doesn't trust many.  His gamer brain has made him some bucks and he's able to have some of the things he didn't have growing up.  But most women he hooks up with aren't interested in the real fantasies he has.  So when he meets the sexy Marley, nothing should change.  But when he sees the dirty GIF on her tumblr account  and he knows he can deliver that fantasy to her, everything changes.

He delivers alright.  But he still doesn't trust.  Takes him time and I thought that felt real.  He does have some lies of omission but somehow they didn't bother me.  Lying can sometimes be a deal breaker with me but Austin had reasons that I was okay with and he made up for it in a way that said how sorry he was.  I forgave him.

Marley is always in control.  She's worked hard, in a male environment, to be taken seriously and be respected.  What she really wants is to give up that control in the bedroom with a sexy guy. But  the guys she's asked for her desires from think she's strange.  So her tumblr is her only outlet until she discovers Austin knows how to take control.

Control and dominance are not really my thing but this one isn't over the top with that.  It's just some bossy talk and a silk tie that have Marley all hot and bothered.  I can see why she needs what's totally different than her job to feel pleasured.  And Austin didn't have control growing up so it's pretty clear why he does it well.  But there's more to Austin than control in the bedroom.  He's a sweetie that makes breakfast and wants to care for the girl he's with.  Her pleasure is important to him.

When you want to relax with not so typical characters, a great story and some extra hot sexy times, then this is the book you want to pick up.

Author Interview...

With so many romance books out there to pick from, how do you make your stories stand out and appeal to today's readers?
First, I write what I feel driven to write. If I’m not feeling it, then I think the reader will notice. So I write what I’m passionate about, whether that’s New Adult, or Adult Erotic Romance, or LGBTQ romance. And I work really hard on the voices of my characters to make them feel distinct and like people readers would want as friends.

Pick any character from any of your books and tell us something we don't know from the book about them.

I alluded to this a little in CHANGING HIS GAME, but Austin was never a popular kind of guy. He’s quiet and maybe a little brooding. He can be very direct when he talks and doesn’t mince words. In middle school and high school, he was awkward and nerdy. He didn’t get the girl. Or the money. But he studied and he went after his passion. Now that he’s in his thirties, he can’t believe that he ended up getting the girl of his dreams.

What's your favorite trope to read/write?

I love the brother’s best friend trope. Love it. It’s a one-click to me. If the heroine has been pining for her brother’s best friend for years and halfway through the book, we find out the best friend has been pining for her? Swooooooon. I’m done for.

As far as writing, I really enjoy writing second-chance at love stories. I have one out now (MAKE IT LAST) and have another one coming up in June (DIRTY THOUGHTS). I just love that both characters held a torch for each other even when they were apart, and I love to write how they fall in love again.

About Megan Erickson

Megan worked as a journalist covering real-life dramas before she decided she liked writing her own endings better and switched to fiction.

She lives in Pennsylvania with her husband, two kids and two cats. When she's not tapping away on her laptop, she's probably listening to the characters in her head who won't stop talking.

  2. Wonderful Review :)I loved that Austin wasn't they typic male character too! His lies by omission were understandable, and I agree the BDSM was very light. Great interview as well!!! The Brother's Best Friend trope is my absolute favorite too :)
