Mayhem (Mayhem #1) by Jamie Shaw

When college freshman Rowan Michaels meets gorgeous, up-and-coming rock star Adam Everest, she knows a player like him is the last thing she needs after her ex-boyfriend shattered her heart. But she can't stop thinking about the kiss they shared on his tour bus.

On the first day of school, Rowan is stunned when Adam saunters into her French class. He's soon failing miserably, and, on a whim, she offers to tutor him. But Adam doesn't recognize her as a makeup-free, glasses-clad college student—a far cry from the beautiful, mysterious "Peach" he met at his concert.

During a wild weekend on tour with the band, Rowan can't help falling for the sweet guy buried beneath Adam's rocker persona. Yet she knows she could never compete with the girls constantly throwing themselves at his feet. She'd just end up hurt … again.

Peach is all Adam thinks about, though, and when Rowan realizes this, she has a decision to make: stay just friends to protect her fragile heart … or reveal the truth about the night they met and admit she's fallen completely, hopelessly in love with him.

Review...

Sometimes I read books, and I can make an extremely long list of what I like or didn't like about it and it's all in order in my head and READY TO GO. Other times, it's kind of a mix. Some things I know and other parts of more sketchy. And OTHER times...I just have no idea what to say. More often than not, this happens when I enjoy a book--because I can't find the words to explain what the story did to me.

This is one of those books.

I LOVED Mayhem. It was an easy, fun read that made me feel happy and interested literally the entire time I was encased in the novel. And I've been sitting here for a month now trying to figure out what to say in this review...and I'm still not certain. I'm going to do my best, but please. If there is one thing you get from this review, let it be that I adore this story and these characters.

SO. Characters. Rowan is the MC, and I was so fond of her. I'm not entirely sure why. I think I just feel like I understood her so much, and she was definitely likable. Not in an un-humanly perfect way, either. But in a way that I knew we'd totally be friend if she were a real person I met one day. She's just a cool chick. And then there was Adam...Adam freaking Everest. I fell for him, HARD. He was so endearing, which isn't something I say about love interests who double as manwhores. Though Adam was different. You can tell he wasn't into it when Rowan was around and you can tell he cared more about Rowan than any of the other what's-her-names. He's a good guy, and he's making a huge adjustment to having different feelings for a girl than he's used to--where he wants to actually, you know, keep her. Plus, he has a shining personality. Funny. Sweet. Lovable. So yeah, I loved him.

As a couple, I ship these two all day every day. They're something like friends to lovers (but with a little twist, methinks) and it was a good time watching these grow together and realize that gosh darn it, they wanted to be in a relationship. Adam and Rowan are seriously so cute and sweet. I could read their life and story forever.

As for plot, it's nothing out of left field, but that's not a bad thing at all. It's a comfortable thing. It's an aspect that made this book so easy to relax into and just enjoy. There was a little stress on the point that Rowan wasn't fessing up to who she was, but even that didn't take away from the easy flow of things. This book was just such a great time. It's like spending time with an old friend. Not often do I feel so taken in and trusting of a story, but Mayhem pulled me in and made me happy. I loved it.

Overall, Mayhem is a sweet, fun, and sexy love story that I definitely recommend. If you're looking for a romance that'll give your day an extra dose of fabulous, this is the book for you. Read it. Enjoy it. And have some fun with Adam freaking Everest.

5 stars - A sweet romance with the perfect amount of happiness leaking from each page. I truly love this book!
