Lux Readathon ~ August 4th is Origin

Monday is Origin

Daemon will do anything to get Katy back.

After the successful but disastrous raid on Mount Weather, he’s facing the impossible. Katy is gone. Taken. Everything becomes about finding her. Taking out anyone who stands in his way? Done. Burning down the whole world to save her? Gladly. Exposing his alien race to the world? With pleasure.

All Katy can do is survive.

Surrounded by enemies, the only way she can come out of this is to adapt. After all, there are sides of Daedalus that don’t seem entirely crazy, but the group’s goals are frightening and the truths they speak even more disturbing. Who are the real bad guys? Daedalus? Mankind? Or the Luxen?

Together, they can face anything.

But the most dangerous foe has been there all along, and when the truths are exposed and the lies come crumbling down, which side will Daemon and Katy be standing on?

And will they even be together?

5 stars - What a ride! If it's possible, I love this series more with this book than I did with Obsidian! What a ride!

Let me start with the shock value. I'm pretty good at figuring out plots. I read a lot of books so most things do not surprise me. But in this book? In this book, I was surprise and then I was shocked and then I was totally blown away. I had this idea in my head about what this book was gonna be about and I was totally and completely wrong. Obviously, I can't tell you what surprised me so much. I will say that Daemon didn't do what I expected him to do but it was 100% Daemon Black. I think that's what I love best about JLA books. Her characters are who they are. I never question if her characters are doing things out of character - they are real.

I've seen different sides of Daemon and seen him grow over the course of the series but he is still that confident and gorgeous douche that has this incredible sweet, protective side when it comes to Katy. He's an alien making a statement. And he's pissed off in this book - so watch out. I loved his passion, his strength, his compassion, his love, his priorities, and his determination. He belongs on the cover by himself for this book.

I so loved the dual POV in this one. To listen to him think was so incredible. Really he is who he is. He thinks the way he acts and I loved that. I loved being inside his head when he kissed his kitten. I loved being inside his head when he reacted to the shock value in this book. I loved being in his head when the whole world changes. And it must certainly changes. JLA said this book is a game changer and she wasn't kidding or downplaying it one little bit.

I loved Katy in this story. She's really going through some hard times. She has to deal with who she is and what she is forced to do. She doesn't want to become the inhuman shells she's seen in some of the other hybrids. But there are some huge shocks for her as the story unfolds. The meaning of the title was one of those big shocks. Trying to figure out who to trust and who to stay away from was so hard on her. Trying to be human was hard on her. Being away from Daemon was hard on her. Things change for the book blogger. But she is still Katy and she misses her books and her blog.

Speaking of books and blogs, I loved how even though things were hard and crazy there were some sweet references to books in this one. I loved that. I love that Katy is a book blogger. It makes her real to me.

Oh and let me just say that this author has no problem killing off characters. I was really surprised how many we lost in this book. I was okay with some and upset about others. One in particular, I was just starting to like and then bam, gone. Game changer for sure. Those kind of changes are going to have a huge affect on the characters that are left for the last book.

Speaking of the last book, I'm so dying. Next summer? No title or cover to look at yet. Oh, this will be one hard wait.

If you have been reading this series, then pick up and devour this book TODAY. If you don't know Daemon Black yet, then you need to meet the guy. This book is hard to categorize but I'd say peeps who love romance, YA, or paranormal anything will LOVE this series.

HOLY EFFING BABY OF GOODNESS.

That is the first thing that comes to mind when I think of this book.

Waiting for this one was torture. The ending to Opal was, like, BOOM, and then we had to wait a normal amount of time for this one. We'd kind of been spoiled with the other books. I was okay with that. But I'm okay with waiting for these books however long I may have to because you know what? They freaking rock. Origin included.

We pick up where Opal left off, which is, ahem, IN TURMOIL. I was worried I'd have trouble getting into this one, seeing as....

**Okay, I usually don't do this, but I am this time because I'd reeeeeally rather not ruin Opal for ya--there will be spoilers for the past three books in here. No spoilers for Origin, because y'all know I don't play that way, but for Obsidian, Onyx, and Opal? Yes. No way around it. So cover your eyes if you haven't read those yet, children.**

Now, back to what I was saying...I was worried I'd have trouble getting into this one, seeing as Daemon and Katy were separated for the beginning of this one. But when I actually had the book in my hands and dove into it, I got stuck in this one from the very first page, just like the rest of the series. I think the dual POV helped A LOT with that, since we still get our needed doses of both of our fav characters, as opposed to being stuck with Katy for however long and wondering what may or may not be up with our dear old Daemon. No offense to Katy, but that would have sucked.

When you compare the characters to how they were in Obsidian, they have changed a crap load. The good thing is that they've changed in a way that doesn't make me want to beat them up. Especially Daemon. As the books progressed, I became less and less likely to slap that boy across his pretty little face. And now in Origin...I can totally forgo the slapping and just start kissing.

He's still not perfect of course, and I'm fairly certain that he never will be. But that's life and I wouldn't have our favorite Luxen any other way. Katy did her own changing thing, too, that makes me feel for her so much. I mean, not TOO much because she's the lucky b-word that gets to be with Daemon. But still, she's with Daemon and I don't hate her (out of jealousy!), so she must be doing something right.

Yes, people say "I love you." It was sweet. Along with other sweet things. THERE IS ALL KINDS OF SWEETNESS ALL UP IN THESE PAGES.

I'm not going to lie, even though I tried not to see any spoilers before I got into the book myself, I failed. I ended up seeing two. So I was obviously expecting those. But there were still surprises. Some of them the fun kind and some of them the OMG JEN WTF ARE YOU DOING STOP IT kind. I can honestly say that I did not get bored at all while reading this one, which is good because I have the attention span of a two year old sometimes. And I read this right around the beginning of the school year, too...goodness knows I was probably wishing for a nap.

Oh, and the title. That was fun, how it actually played a part in the book. I was not expecting that. And I was seriously creeped out by it. Which I LOVED.

Also, if you refuse to read this book because you hate the thought of a whole book of Daemon without Katy and/or Katy without Daemon, then get your butt up out of your computer chair (or whatever the heck you're sitting in) and get this book. Stop being a scaredy cat. I read it, so can you. Plus, they were together again sooner than I expected. Then again, that may not mean what you think it means... ;)

But for reals. Read this book.

Overall, Jen has written us another devastatingly fabulous Lux novel that I am positive will make you laugh, fist pump (I'm thinking of a specific thing happening to a specific person for that one...), possibly punch a wall once or twice, and then giggle because Daemon...hehehe, the things he says...

And let the record show, DAEMON AND KATY ARE SO FREAKING CUTE I DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW LIKE WHAT I CAN'T WHAT AHHH.

Okay, okay, I'm going to stop there because this is getting more about the fun gifs for me and less about the quotes, so unless I stop now, I'll end up putting the whole freaking book on here and that's probably not okay.

But if you haven't taken the time to read it, you want to now, right? Riiiight?! TELL ME I'M RIGHT.

And that's it? Yeah. I think that's it.

Brb, just gonna go rock in a corner until Opposition...

(I'm actually surprisingly okay with the ending to Origin. I mean, I wouldn't turn down the book if Jen were to ask me to read it RIGHT THIS SECOND--which I am aware isn't possible, but let me make my point--but I'm not dead waiting for book 5, either. I'm feeling patient for what I'm sure will be pure awesome sauce. You know, because that's what Jen is made of.)

  1. I am actually in the middle of reading Origin as I type this! It is, hands down, becoming the best book in the series. I really like the change of scenery and the new characters too:)

  4. I love JLA so so much. I'd read her grocery lists! Everything she writes is amazingness, and this was no less. The series kept getting better, and I loved Origin so much. Daemon and Katy didn't really argue, and there was cuteness, and there was- off course- the typical JLA CLIFFHANGER that leaves you so angry that you have to wait for the next book. I can't believe it's finally here though. :)
