Guest Post ~ Jill Knapp

Getting to know the main character of What Happens To Men When They Move To Manhattan?” by Jill Knapp

The book opens up with my main character, Amalia. She’s hung over.. she’s feeling ill.. and she is already running late for class at NYU. Physically speaking, Amalia is a fairly average American girl. She’s about 5”5, average weight, curly blonde hair, and blue eyes. She doesn’t wear a lot of make-up and her hair is pretty much always a mess.

This pretty much sums up what Amalia is like most of the time. She’s the girl with the messy hair, who’s always running late. She drinks a bit too much, doesn’t work hard enough at school, and is constantly in turmoil with her love life. The main consistencies in her life are her two friends, Cassandra (who she’s known practically her whole life) and Olivia (a girl in her class at NYU who’s she’s only known a few months)

Amalia has a boyfriend named Nick who she’s convinced is her soul-mate. They’ve been dating for two years, and have known each other for about four or five, but something’s been going on with Nick lately that’s making him just not act like himself. Combine that with Amalia’s eyes wandering over to one of her other friends, Michael, and you have a recipe for disaster on your hands.

Deep down, Amalia is a good person. But like most 23yr olds, she’s a bit lost and living in NYC is no place to be when you’re heads not screwed on straight! But throughout the book (and books because this is only the first in a series!) she does a lot of growing up. She starts to realize her self-worth, and the difference between right and wrong. If only for her own moral compass.

The Book...

The question that 23-year old Amalia Hastings wants the answer to is: What happens to men when they move to Manhattan?
Life in the big city gives Amalia a ride she is not expecting. As she tries to find her way on the little island that never sleeps, she discovers she has a harder time navigating through life then she does the streets of Greenwich Village and finds herself truly lost in the complex world of men, graduate school, money, family, and friendship.

She thought she had everything she wanted – a new apartment in Manhattan, a first-rate education at NYU, a group of trusted friends and Nicholas, a boyfriend who she once believed was her soul-mate. But somehow, it isn’t enough.

Stumbling through her relationships, Amalia encounters Michael. An attractive classmate who quickly moves from being one of her close friends, to an inconsistent friend-with-benefits. After all, the only thing consistent about New York is its beauty.

After getting terribly lost searching for love in all the wrong places, Amalia finds herself torn between the possibility of a relationship, and an adventure she's been planning all along.

She eventually realizes that solely chasing love closes her off to all of the other good things life has to offer. Now she must decide – what is worth the chase?

  2. This sounds like an interesting book! A story of growth and a girl on a journey. I must try it out sometimes, although I do hope the drama manages to be enough to maintain throughout the whole series.
