Most Eligible Sheriff by Cathy McDavid ~ Review & Giveaway

Source: Received paperback from the publisher in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Las Vegas casino manager Ruby McPhee needs to lay low while the police deal with a stalker at work. So she's trading in her high heels for cowboy boots and assuming her twin sister's identity at the Gold Nugget Ranch. Ruby only plans on staying in Sweetheart, Nevada, until the threat back home has passed. But then she discovers a detail her sister forgot to mention—the handsome sheriff she's dating.

It only takes a single kiss for Cliff Dempsey to realize the woman in his arms is someone entirely different…and completely irresistible. To protect Ruby's secret, Cliff maintains her ruse, but soon the lines between duty and desire begin to blur. Ruby and Cliff know they have a once-in-a-lifetime connection, but will they have a chance to let their love grow?

My Thoughts:

4 stars -  Lots of yummy to go along with some twists in this read

First Impressions...

Hunky, cowboy sheriff on the cover? Sign me up!

I was also drawn to the idea of them pretending to be dating.  I love those story lines.

The Characters...

I love Cliff.  He's protective and pretty darned observant.  He figures her out in the first 10 minute meeting.  I also felt bad for him.  Ruby's twin had not only left him to go back to her boyfriend but had not even bothered to tell Ruby she had been dating him.  He so didn't deserve that.  He's a great guy.  Ruggedly handsome, thoughtful and protective, I fell for him quickly.  Too bad he feels like he can't really date Ruby since he's protecting her.

Ruby is hiding out from a stalker.  She's trying to be her sister.  They did it a lot in high school, no big deal, right?  But she's not her sister and that's pretty clear to the guy that was dating her sister.  Good thing he only just liked the twin but his feeling for Ruby are a bit stronger.  I love that they resist and that Ruby, in particular, doesn't want to resist.  I loved watching her try to be good with kids like her sister is supposed to be and not like dogs when she really loves them.  So fun.

The Story...

This is a small town story with some fun twists.  I love the set-up and the idea of pretending.  I would have loved the scene where they dance together but since it was square dancing I guess the memory of it was enough.

Sweet and a little bit sexy, this one was a fun read.

Could I Put It Down...

Probably could have but since I didn't have to, I didn't.

In The End...

This story is for anyone who enjoys small town romance, cowboy romance, pretending in romance, or just plain good romance.

About the author:

Cathy McDavid had no idea when she opened that first Walter Farley book in third grade, it bio picwould be a defining moment in her life. After devouring every Black Stallion and Island Stallion book written at the time — the process took over a year — she decided she wanted her own horse. That dream was realized a few years later, and Cathy went on to own horses and ride most of her life. Bonanza and Big Valley reruns every day after school enforced her love of all things western as well as a fascination with "cowboy" history.

Always an avid reader, she first put fingers to keyboard in 1995 and penned her first novel. She enjoyed some success with smaller publishers, but it wasn't until 2005 when she finally got to see her first mass market paperback on the shelves of Barnes and Noble bookstores. There was no going back after that. In 2006, she started writing contemporary westerns for Harlequin American couldn't be happier. All those years of reading every horse book ever written and watching old western TV shows finally paid off!

These days, she is "mostly" retired from the corporate business world and writes full time from her home in Scottsdale, Arizona near the breath-taking McDowell Mountains, where javalina traipse across her yard, hawks fly overhead and bobcats hide in her trees. Her twenty-two year old twins have "mostly" left the house to live on their own, but return often, if only to use her washer and dryer and empty out her refrigerator — a situation that does not make her two spoiled dogs and two spoild-er cats happy. When time allows, she heads to her cabin in the mountains, always taking her laptop with her on the chance inspiration strikes.

  1. "Most Eligible Sheriff" captures my attention the most. I love reading cowboy romances and this really sounds good. I haven't read any of Cathy McDavid's books and I sure want to read her books now. Hope I win a copy, because I'm disabled and I get a fixed income and can't afford to buy stuff what I want, just things I need. I also like to read "The Real Thing" by Brenda Jackson, sounds good too. Thanks for the giveaway!

  4. I love the twin aspect. I went to school with several sets of twins and some were identical and would constantly try to fool everyone so that is a big draw for me. I am reading this regardless if I win or not!!
