Roomie survival

Today, I'm sharing a story about a roommate for the "Win one for you and your reader" Sweepstakes!

Little, Brown Books presents...

The countdown to college has begun.

When Elizabeth receives her freshman-year roommate assignment at the beginning of summer, she shoots off an email to coordinate the basics: TV, microwave, mini-fridge. She can't wait to escape her New Jersey beach town, and her mom, and start life over in California.

The first note to Lauren in San Francisco comes as a surprise; she had requested a single. But if Lauren's learned anything from being the oldest of six, it's that you can't always get what you want, especially when what you want is privacy.

Soon the girls are emailing back and forth, sharing secrets even though they've never met. With family relationships and childhood friendships strained by change, it suddenly seems that the only people Elizabeth and Lauren can rely on are the complicated new boys in their lives...and each other.

With humor and heart, Sara Zarr, National Book Award finalist for Story of a Girl, and Tara Altebrando, acclaimed author of The Pursuit of Happiness, join forces for a novel about that time after high school, when everything feels like it's ending just as it's beginning.

My roommate story:

Yeah, okay mine is not gonna be funny.  Well, you may think it's funny but I still have nightmares about it.  The roommate that drove me crazy was actually my BRAND NEW Hubby's BFF.  They were sharing a condo when we got married.  My husbands condo, mind you.  Yeah, well I thought I was marrying one guy and got two.  It was way too much for a new bride to take, I assure you.  From him following me around the kitchen while I made breakfast hoping for some before he left for work to his weird hours to his mess.  Then there was the smirking looks I got all the time.  WTH? He was always giving me that cat who ate the mouse look?? Yeah, okay we had just come out of the bedroom together but I JUST GOT MARRIED.  I'm allowed.  You, on the other hand, should move out.  Yeah, I'm still not over it.  So, I'm sure you're laughing but I'm glaring. Well, it may be a little funny - the sad little look on his face when he didn't get breakfast before he had to leave for work.

  1. Long story short my older sister and I were going to the same college - me a freshman and she was a transfer sophmore-junior and we both needed to live on campus.....by some random freak accident she ended up being my roommate and we didn't realize it till later in the evening when we saw that our room keys had identical numbers with the exception of a letter (452A, 452B)

  3. Yours is too funny and a little creepy. I don't have any good ones. Mine were all normal. Nothing to tell. Darn it!!

  4. Sorry I have never had a roommate. I got married at 18. I definitely wouldn't want a roommate like you had. He would have to move out.

  5. I had lots of roomies and most of them were great. OK, there was the guy whose friend crashed on our couch and stole a bunch of my CDs when he left, and the two lesbians with too many cats who kept getting into the garbage (the cats, not the lesbians). But by and large it was fun and cost effective.

  7. My roomie from college was awesome, still is actually but we're no longer roomies - we're best friends! We lived together for three years until I graduated. Some of my best memories include some of the hijinks we would pull together. One involved taking extra sodas from the cafeteria. On one occasion she freaked out and dropped all of them, right out from her to-go bag. Lol Then she took off running. I had to quickly collect them from the floor. (We were only allowed one, but we would take extra for later.)

  8. I shared a town house with my ex best friend and it ruined our relationship... she was a slob , moved her boyfriend in that i did not like and he stole money from me.

  9. My roommate for my second semester of my freshman year of college sucked. She was just ridiculously mean. She would refuse to talk to me and would change the temperature in our room just to be rude. Like after I got out of a shower, she'd open the windows.

  12. I would NOT be happy marrying a guy's roommate as part of the deal. How long did he stay there?!

My roommate and I are a success story. We met on the first day of college and 20 years later we're still BFFs.

    1. Not long! I couldn't stand him and it was a problem fast. About two months and then he was gone, thankfully.

  13. I never had a roommate. I wonder what it'd be like though... It'd be bad if he/she was anything like yours LOL.
